Sapphire Garden Townhouses

We stayed here for 5 days. The location is excellent - across the road from a beach with the sea as blue and as warm as you could wish for and is virtually deserted most of the time. There is also a quiet family orientated bar by the beach which serves reasonably priced food, has games and plenty of beer when required. The house was an excellent size - 7 of us were staying and there were 3 bedrooms, one with en suite. The sofa bed downstairs was fine, and plenty of linen and towels were available. The kitchen amenities were good, everything worked well (except the drier which was out of service so we had to dry clothes outside, but this was ok). The air con and wifi also worked well, although there were a couple of complaints from the lighter sleepers about the noise of the air con when it kicked in during the night - nothing major though. Overall a very good experience and excellent location to explore Exuma. We hired a car as we did several trips into George Town and up to the north and south of the island for boat trips etc. There is a driveway for parking and a car hire place next door. You can also use their kayaks for free - however we chose not to, due to a wasps nest having moved into them for the Summer!

Four of us were visiting Great Exuma so we stayed in a 2 bedroom condo at Sapphire Garden. It was great to have laundry and a kitchen! Location is right across the street from 3 different restaurants and about 1.5 miles from downtown.

We stayed at this town house on our last trip to the Exumas. It isn't what most people would expect because it isn't what I would call "resort quality". But who cares. Its clean and really quite roomy. The office staff doesn't go out of their way to be welcoming and friendly but do you really care? We didn't spend alot of time in our room because we were doing things all day every day. The townhouse is located right across the street from one of the most fabulous white sand beaches you will ever see. Bonus: its practically deserted. This is NOT a touristy location. There aren't families with screaming kids leaving garbage everywhere. Just some really chill people that mostly keep to themselves. It is walking distance to a local restaurant that feeds everybody. We are vegan so we had humongous servings of their peas and rice. There is also platanos and of course more rice and peas!! We didn't rent a car but took a cab to town and back every day. I recommend that you check prices PRIOR to getting your cab. As it turns out there is no real set price for anything and some cab drivers will charge you more than others. The townhouse is way bigger than we expected with two full bathrooms which is always quite handy. Go here and stay here. You will not regret it. Just don't be a whiny baby about having everything first class and handed to you-if that's your attitude than stay at the full service resort on the other end of the island. Leave the tranquil peace of this place to the regular people.

Be prepared when you check in the hosts are not super friendly. That being said the place is in an excellent location and we really loved staying here. Its extra roomy and there are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Full size living room and kitchen. You are within walking distance of one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see and a wonderful restaurant right down the road. The town is a bit of a walk and you really do take your life into your own hands if you walk there. It isn't far but the roads are quite narrow. We found a taxi service. Be careful about the cost . We found that different drivers charge different amounts. Make sure you ask a couple how much they charge. There is no set rate and no way of knowing how much they will charge. They will match the prices of others though.

This was our 4th year in a row at Sapphire Gardens and it's exactly what I expected. As you may have read in the reviews below, the 3 bedroom is spacious and in the ideal location of the island with 3 beach bars and the fish fry within walking distance. The entire staff at Sapphire Gardens are such a please to work with. I will agree with several of the reviews regarding the bed situation. These are in desperate need of being replaced. We had several friends and family members staying with us over the course of the month (Feb) and it was the major complaint around the condo. We also had friends stay in the 2 bedroom condo and it was an issue. Another small issue is the cleanliness of the condo when we arrived and the fact that it hasn't had any upgrades within 4 years. A good paint job would go a long way. We are hoping to come back next year and would be thrilled if these issues would be fixed. We started for a week with a group of friends and it was a great stay. The condo is within walking distance of several beaches, bars and restaurants. The place was clean and has a nice back yard. The beds are my only complaint. The mattresses need to be replaced.

We stayed here for three weeks in the 3 bedroom unit. This accommodation needs updating and a lot of maintenance. Has a cockroach problem and there are rat droppings on the upstairs deck. The toilet in the main bathroom is not bolted down and rocks up and down when you sit on it. There are bug's in the cupboard. Some of the windows are so dirty you can't see through them. The washer and dryer are in the kitchen and the dryer is not vented to the outside and it gets very hot and the fridge does not work because of this. If you stay here do not look under the bed as it has never been cleaned. I would say the biggest problem is the cleaning. I would not stay here again. Be careful when you cross the street because they will run you down here.

It is a shame that such a beautiful island is marred by petty thievery. The townhouse itself is so-so: it would work great for a spring break crowd. Very tacky, cheesy décor, definitely a DIY operation. All of that would be ok; the price was quite reasonable in high season. What is not reasonable is a daily pillaging of all possessions, and sticky fingers removing things piece by piece. Yes, I brought a bunch of inexpensive jewelry, and returned home with about half of the items. None of them were too expensive, but because they had sentimental value, I hid them very carefully while I enjoyed the natural beauty of the island. Thankfully, I kept my cash, credit cards and passport with me at all times. I travel for my job to all parts of the world, and have never had anything stolen. But here in a subtropical paradise, our townhouse was systematically raided. They couldn't be bothered to replenish any of the supplies as basic as toilet paper, but they could steal my jewelry. Therefore, my rating for Sapphire Garden Townhouses is "Terrible" and we advise all travelers to boycott this shady operation. Be forewarned: if you do stay here, just bring your swimsuit, a cover up, and no other possessions. You really don't need them anyway. Take all of your IDs, passport, cash and credit cards with you wherever you go. Anything you leave behind will likely disappear or be used for identity theft.

We booked with Thompson’s Rentals (Sapphire Gardens Townhouses) based on a recommendation from someone in our group who has stayed there for the past several years. We booked the one-bedroom unit and they upgraded us to the two upon arrival. This was a great value and is centrally located. The townhouses are within walking distance to Jolly Hall Beach (about a block), Splash Bar (across the street), Augusta Bay and Exuma Beach Resort. You can also walk to the Fish Fry, but I wouldn't recommend it - the roads are very narrow and people drive very fast. Kim, Krystel and everyone else at Thompson’s were great to work with – quick response to email inquiries and quick to respond to any issues that we may have had. We would definitely stay here again. We would suggest to them though, get new mattresses. At least in the master bedrooms to start with. They were very uncomfortable and it was hard to get a full night of sleep. That was really the only issue we had. It was great having a full kitchen – it really helped save us a lot of money on our trip. The Bahamas can be very expensive.
