I loved the overall feel of the motel. Even though it is dated the bed was extremely comfortable. I loved that they do fires in the pit. There are are two chairs outside each room to enjoy the scenery. Overall it's a great place to stay. I also like the fact they don't let locals stay there. Local to them is within 50 miles. I would definitely recommend this location!

"Overall good stay"

Rooms needed updating but not a bad stay for the price and location. Some building repairs needed as well. Property is not bad. The old school neon lighting must stay as you can tell it has history. Rooms were clean and staff friendly.

"A Little Bit of Asheville History"

10.0

Forget the Grove Park Inn! If you want a taste of Asheville history at a great price, choose The Mountaineer Inn. I grew up in Asheville, and ALWAYS wanted to stay here. So, on a recent trip home, I picked The Mountaineer Inn. And it was an excellent motel in the old motor lodge tradition. This place is an institution to Asheville natives. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. And they still have the knotty pine walls! Loved it. Comfortable, convenient, affordable. Don't miss it.

Grew up in Asheville, and always loved seeing The Mountaineer Inn up on the knoll above Tunnel Road. When I went home for a visit, had to give it a try. It’s a motel, of course, not a hotel, but a motel in the most retro sense of things, and they’ve done a great job taking care of it. The pool is pristine, and would be lovely on a warm evening. The rooms are clean, comfortable, cozy, and they’ve preserved the knotty pine panels (NOT paneling … knotty pine bead board), and it’s beautiful. Didn’t find a thermostat in the room, but didn’t need one—the temp was just right. Good old fashion (very clean) tile in the bathroom, nice showers and very hot water. Stayed two nights, and enjoyed sitting out in front of the room in the chairs, watching the sun go down and traffic go by. If you’re looking for a genuine motor inn, very conveniently located, and really a bit of Asheville history, highly recommend. And the price is right.

"Cozy in an old-timey way."

6.0

I liked the convenient location of the hotel, the provided coffee maker, cable, small fridge, ac/heat, i needed both in October. I stayed in one of the older rooms, that had wood paneling that reminded me of my grandma's rec room. I didn't mind the age of the room furnishings, rather cozy in an old-time way. Sheets and towels were clean, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They pointed me to a good vegetarian restaurant downtown, with instructions on how to get there, along with a map of downtown. The price and the location made up my mind. When I telephoned the Mountaineer Inn, the staff guy told me how to get the best rate by booking on line. Nice.

"Good location"

Nice stay with great access to downtown. Would have liked an AC unit in the room, but still comfortable. Great price for what we were looking for. Hopefully some updates will come to The Mountaineer soon to revive a local landmark.
