The Mountaineer Inn

We stayed one night in September, 2023 and knew it was not "fancy" by the price. We missed the free breakfast offerred by more pricey hotels. Check-in was easy; the shower was nice but the shower curtain needed replacement.

The location is great. Close to lots of restaurants and downtown Asheville. Just some things to know. There is coffee maker and coffee in the rooms. No decaf coffee is available. There are no blow dryers in the rooms. The front desk does have blow dryers. For the money we had a good stay!

It’s a pleasant location and view. The rooms are very dated but are clean and maintained. Everyone on the morning and night staff was aces, both friendly and helpful. Good value.

Stayed four nights for a motorcycle trip to the mountains. Room was clean and did not have that "old motel" musty smell. Had no smell at all in fact. Loved the retro bathroom with the vintage ceramic tile and the shower that actually worked. Would stay there again.

This property was good value. For others, please make the distinction between poor customer behavior and the hotel. The motel was fine. Customers can be sketchy. The room was spacious. Avocado bathroom spoke to ‘character’. Please implement shampoo in the rooms as ALL hotels do this. Thanks

Great stay, very authentic and “mountaineer”. 5 minutes from downtown, in a great area with lots of loaves to eat around. Cleanliness could have been a bit better but it was still a fun trip, staff was very friendly and informative.

Check in staff made us feel like an inconvenience to them, however there was a maintenance man that found me a shower chair, i am disabled and the tub/shower was very slick, there was no non- slip mat in the tub/shower, nor do they provide them. I do not plan on staying here again.

I love the Mountaineer. It's a bit run down, but it's great if you like an interesting place to stay with a diverse clientele. They say they're doing some significant upgrades soon--which is welcome but I hope they don't destroy the place's charm in the process.
