Riva Del Sole Resort & SPA

Lovely pool complex. Food was good. Enjoyed the evening buffet. Beach on the doorstep. Sun loungers and umbrella on the beach included, once assigned to you, these are then yours for your stay. Resort very clean and well looked after.

Mosquitoes seemed to be a problem around the pizza restaurant, we had to move inside. Insect repellent in the dining area really would have helped. Drinking water- no complementary water in rooms and unbelievably no water stations in the gym either. Slightly over priced.

Hotel itself along with Bar, Beach and restaurant. Didn't have time to sdample more.

The food in the restaurant is tasty, the selection is varied and the service is nice and everything is going well. Likewise, the receptionists are helpful. Our room was small, but nicely and purposefully furnished, nothing was missing for satisfaction. Nice and clean beach right next to the hotel. You will be allocated a parasol (sun ubrella) and sunbeds for the entire duration of your stay, and if you are unlucky enough that there is not a free place that you like on the day of your arrival (f.e. first row closest to the sea...), you must also be in the same place on the other days. Beachboy didn't know much English and it was complicated to communicate with him.

The hotel blocked a €500 deposit on our credit card upon arrival in case of damage to the room and kept it for five days after our departure. I would think it would be fair to return the deposit to the card immediately after I check out and the hotel checks that the room is in order (within an hour, one day at most) The policy regarding the rental of towels for the beach and their exchange in case of pollution (you are entitled to exchange only 2 times a week and each exchange is confirmed by stamps on the cards you get at the reception) seems to me undignified. We understand that there may be guests who steal towels or change them too often, but the way Riva Del Sole Resort has chosen to protect against dishonest guests seems excessive to me and makes one feel like a small child suspected of a crime when they have to do everything get a confirmation (card, stamp...) This is a negligible cost for the price of accommodation, when a few dishonest guests treat everyone else as suspects...

The only positive was the room was clean, tidy and well organized with space. The breakfast was very good and the staff was very helpful and kind.

Overall quite an expensive hotel for the service provided, friendliness, helpfulness and state of the place. Very subpar. We have stayed in less expensive resorts with much more superb quality and services. It’s very old and dated property. Even entering with a car is a whole ordeal with lack of signs on where to go. Reception was unfriendly and quite cold. My asking of how to park was greeted with contempt and disbelief that we couldn’t figure something so obvious as driving into an area that says “do not enter” and crowds of people walking on a pavement. Beach staff was downright rude and harsh. The overall resort is very complicated and with a ton of rules. Felt we were in school again with the towels, badges, entrances. An incredible amount of useless bureaucracy for a country that usually has no rules. We misplaced our towels (beach staff cleared them) and you’d think we burned down a hotel room. Took 1 hour and quite a hefty charge to get a new set (very beat up and worn towels). For the price of this hotel, you don’t expect to be haggled on towels. You also have to use the same towel for a whole week which is not very hygienic and the same for the spa (possible to change one time only). If you decide to come, bring your own but do expect to pay a fee for this as well. I would not recommend this place to stay if you’re looking to relax. The dated buildings and constant rules makes it hard to appreciate that you are actually in a beautiful place. Perhaps there are different rules if you’re Italian versus non Italian. It’s a shame because Tuscany can be such a friendly place as someone who’s visited Italy every year for many years. This is not one of them. Prepare to pay a high price for mediocrity.
