Elkwater Lake Lodge and Resort

Cable was not great no tv in bedroom but it was gorgeous

Bed was good. Shower was good with adequetly hot water. TV worked well. The hot jetted tub was interesting but not used. Kitchen area was good although the number of glasses and plates etc. was minimum - 2 of each for example. Fire place was nice and gave off a little heat. Our unit was missing a hair dryer which my wife miss right away since we were there for a wedding. The electricity in the back of our unit went out twice in the two days of our stay-probably connected to a bed side lamp. Outage included the bathroom which was a little inconvient. First outage was fixed in a timely fashion, but the second time was over night and into the early morning. The resort is very nicely located in the area, clean, and comfortable.

Good but expensive. Most places would provide breakfast with a $185 room.

Sink and shower taps both dripping. Toilet leaking constantly. Bulb broken over fireplace. Wi-fi connected to phone but not to internet. Couch in main room old, tattered and sagging. Hot tub not operational. Key card wouldn’t open pool room.

Good location and easy to find. Room was nice and clean, bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly.

No closet to hang your clothes, tiny balcony that overlooked the parking lot. Wasn't allowed to make toast even though we brought our own toaster. The room was small (single queen) and quite expensive for what you actually got and during the off season.

restaurant terrible / poor food / poor service/ everything else good

We had supper in your restaurant and the server tried to over charge us. When I checked the bill, he had overcharged on the two drinks. He apologised and said that the prices were going up, but were not registered on the menu yet (Oh yah!) and he immediately gave us $2 back, so he knew that he had done it. Advice- check your bill if you eat in the restaurant. We had breakfast at the golf course and it was good. The food was OK.

See above regarding the overcharge in the restaurant. I looked at the price of the hotel using Trivago and got 4 choices all about the same price of $178. I chose Hotel Booking. I filled in my credit card information then clicked next to fill in my personal information, and suddenly noticed that the price had jumped to $270 with $80 of "fees and taxes". I immediately tried to cancel the booking and thought that I had and booked with another agency (Booking.com). My "Hotels" booking had gone through and I called them and they would not reverse it. I explained to the hotel what had happened but they said that they could not do anything about it. However, they did give me a voucher for a free night in the hotel.

We enjoyed the space our room gave us. It was clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed for our mini retreat. It was great having the restaurant on site. It was a perfect location for the touring we did in the area. The staff were friendly and helpful.

There was nothing we did not like.

CONS:They need to lose the old 'Motel' wing that the diner is in as it detracts from the overall first impression. This lodge has great potential but needs to address a couple of key issues. The restaurant is awful. Even if they make decent food the environment is bad enough to turn your stomach, especially to spend premium dollars on a steak. Little things like the children's size mismatched damaged cutlery, dirty menus, artwork not mounted in the frame or the waiter's shirt half tucked into his pants. Plainly simple, the restaurant needs a new, updated location to fit into the look and feel of the lodge. No grab-bar in the shower and floor level shower is without a glass door and wall. It's very dangerous if you slip or lose your balance. The hide-a-bed is low-end and very uncomfortable!! PROS: The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The main lobby is nice and exudes the wilderness atmosphere. This lodge is very welcoming and the rooms have a beautiful wilderness feel and appearance. Good fridge and microwave, very comfortable king size bed. The whirlpool tub for two is very nice as is the fireplace. Decent flat-screen with Shaw cable (needs to have a movie package added that's easily available from Shaw). Good air-conditioning/heating and a secure double-lock door with privacy pull-down, at least there was one in a jacuzzi suite. The lodge is located close to everything as Elkwater is small and lakeside. This is an amazing place to visit.
