The Old Rectory Inn

This was our second stay the first being about 8 years ago. The hotel is in a great position close enough to walk into the town but also away from the busy area. Limited parking but we had no problems. The room was clean and comfortable with a basic hospitality tray. Slight disappointment was there’s a Tassimo coffee machine but no pods. Didn’t matter and I’m sure if we’d asked they would have provided some. The breakfast was good with a variety of options. We stayed 2 nights over the weekend and ate there both nights. The first night we had the best fish and chips ever! The second night was steak and chicken night which was also delicious and included a bottle of wine. We had to ask for a wine cooler but it was brought promptly. Without exception the staff were friendly and helpful. There was live music both nights that we enjoyed and the atmosphere on the bar was great. All in all a very good stay for the price. Not for you at weekends if you don’t like live music. We will stay again.

Room (twin) was very small. The worst aspect was the noise. There was live music downstairs until about 11.30 followed by lots of shouting and noise from people who seemed to have had enough to drink. Earplugs couldn't abate this noise sufficient to sleep. Had an awful night's sleep thanks to that. If you're a late night party person this shouldn't affect you otherwise avoid this hotel. Also, breakfast isn't served until 8.30 and its nearly 9.00 when the food arrives so if you want an early start this isn't for you. Breakfast was very good with some fresh raspberries but the sausage was very poor- the lowest economy standard of catering sausage. Location is fine and reasonable value.

A warm welcome, great entertainment,spacious, well equipped room, powerful hot shower, excellent breakfast. Double glazing would help keep the room warmer and reduce noise from the road. I would certainly stay here again.

Very friendly staff, room clean and comfortable. Good walks on the doorstep and on the edge of the town. Live music at the weekend was a bonus, great value all round.
