"2 night stay at Honjin Hiranoya Bekkan"

My wife and I visited Takayama for 2 days during our 12 day trip to Japan and had chosen to stay 2 nights at this hotel due to its close promixity to the old town area. For the price that we paid, the condition of the hotel and the lack of facilities it offers, we find it's not worth the money spent at all. Room size is very small and furniture is dated. Staff are very friendly though and always willing to help, which is one good aspect we found from our stay in this hotel. We had the half board package so breakfast and dinner were included. Food is OK but nothing to write home about. We've had better food from another onsen hotel before.

"It is a Modern Ryokan"

We knew what to expect from the Ryokan in general, but this one is a modern version. It is a small room where you eat and sleep on tatami. Fun for kids, ok for adults. When it is an old traditional ryokan you have an ambiance of the old place, here you are squeezed into a modern building converted into a some version of ryokan. This conversion is not very appealing, at least for our family. Food was good, staff was friendly. The hot tub was fine but lacked the charm and is quite dated.

It was a really nice stay, the hotel picked us up directly from the JR rail station and dropped us off when we left. The staff were all friendly as well.

Words cannot begin to describe the memorable experience we had. We stayed for 3 nights and everything was sensational. The food, the traditional Japanese room and of course our beautiful hostess Chihiro Higashi.
