The Wheelhouse

First the positives Chris and the girls were so helpful and welcoming also the view of the harbour is lovely. Negatives opening hours are not good watched people trying to get an evening meal but they close at 4pm also the windows needed a good clean in our room .

We met our friends in Mevagissey who had moved from the Midlands to Cornwall, and they suggested the wheelhouse for some drinks whilst we were there. My wife and I were really impressed, the staff were welcoming and friendly and my two sons aged 4 and 8 were made welcome (they had a good kids drink and food selection as well). The prices of the drinks were quite reasonable and they had comfortable chairs and plenty of tables, both if you wanted to dine (menu looked lovely but were not serving when we went in) or have drinks. The toilets are upstairs and were spotlessly clean. We will definitely visit again!

Great location so just popped in for a drink and sat in the window seats overlooking the harbour. Table top really sticky from stale drinks. Decided to have a little snack from the tapas menu and ordered the chilli prawns (£13.95) and mussels (£9.50). Lots of sauce with the mussels l, but no bread. Turns out bread is extra so another (£4.50). When the prawns came, there were 4 !! Mussels were very small and nowhere near size or quality of the fresh ones we had in another local restaurant Very poor value for money and disappointing.

I am absolutely wanting this review to be constructive and hoping it helps. The location is perfection, absolutely idyllic. The outdoor area is lovely on a nice day too, plus the upstairs restaurant floor is stunning with beautiful views. The food was quite overpriced for the quality and quantity for example the fish and chips which you must order separately come to £15 but are not a £15 restaurant sized serving, the mussels were tiny and and possibly pre packed/cooked were a small cereal bowl sized portion but the sauce was really well made £9.50 without even some bread is a bit steep, the salsa on the sardines was from a jar and could have easily been a fresh salsa which would have added value to the dish. I’ll definitely look out for an improvement on reviews before I return but would LOVE to return and hope this review helps you improve the food quality/portion sizes, maybe a reduced menu could save overheads. Serving staff brilliant! Visit was mid August.

We loved the tapas! Great selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian options, fresh, hot, timely, delicious - we thoroughly enjoyed every bite! Along with a nice bottle of Chilean Sav Blanc Fabulous view sat on the harbour front, quick efficient service

Went today with my wife and son who's Diabetic and Coeliac, staff were fantastic helping me to carb count my son's meal which was very much appreciated. Son enjoyed his meal especially the spicy dip with his chicken wings. Thank you once again, we'll be back.

Its all about location, view & value. Right on the harbour my room had the most amazing view which I enjoyed it for hours. There is free guest parking a 10 minute walk away & drop off area & disabled parking in front for those who need it. The staff are all very friendly, welcoming & constantly check to make sure you are having a good stay - which for the price during high season - I thoroughly did. Chris the owner/manager is a good guy & on hand to discuss concerns. The biggest for me was that breakfast is no longer served at The Wheelhouse, I’d booked a B&B and was surprised to learn this was no longer the case - there are some great places close by but they don’t start serving until 9 or 9.30 - just be aware. Chris explained that there is an issue with the website developer hence the website not being updated to reflect the change. The ‘compact’ bathroom as noted on the site for one of the double rooms is just that, fine for a solo traveller as I didn’t need to close the door to go to the loo, book the larger room if you want a bit more privacy! I loved staying at The Wheelhouse & will return without hesitation if I go back to Mevagissey, as it offers an outstanding location, great value & brilliant staff.

The location is amazing and the tapas was very enjoyable. The lack of breakfast was a surprise. We stayed in the cottage which is very run down eg door hinges coming away, bedroom door handle fell apart, toilet seat jumped when you sat on it. Needs money spending on it. The bathroom was clean. Bed was comfortable and shower worked fine.

Excellent location, excellent staff. Breakfast was very nice, using local produce. Room was a little compact & shower / loo very compact
