"Great historic inn in a cute town."

9.0

The history and the respect they have for it. Rooms were lovely. No tv in room, which was great; it would have spoiled the look. Draft beer was good, too. Staff very friendly.

The breakfast, which was really not good. It was not up to the standards of a cheap chain hotel, where they at least offer scrambled eggs or a waffle maker.

"Two-hundred-year-old Inn with modern comfort and fascinating art."

10.0

Staff were uniformly welcoming and helpful; breakfast, which had been billed as "continental," was fine and varied, way beyond expectation. Room was small but quiet and charming. Appreciated that there were no TVs. Loved the antiquity of the building and the ship artwork throughout. We'll certainly be back.

"lovely Historic Hotel- legendary bar with great live music Friday!!"

10.0

We were in Essex for a “Roaring 20’s” Steam Train Ride/ 60th Birthday party… we booked 8 rooms, the hotel actually called me ahead of time to coordinate so our friends and family could check in seamlessly. Amazing historic hotel. Bar with live music was so much fun and fit perfect with our theme!.

The HB eggs at breakfast were a little stale

The staff was so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There's 3 dining options on the property and all of them had wonderful food and service. The Inn is so quaint and felt very cozy. The main street area that the Inn is on was very walkable and had cute shops to explore. Their coffee shop across the street offers a great selection of coffee, and the staff over there was friendly as well! There are many neighboring small towns to explore. My husband and I loved our stay here and would definitely recommend the Griswold to family and friends!

I'm in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy and the mattresses were just a little to stiff for my comfort. But, if you like a firm mattress you'll have no issue! Everything else about our stay was exceptional!

"Would come back again to explore the area."

9.0

The historical aspect. The pub was gorgeous and the staff so nice. That there was a step stool to get on the bed.

The narrow stairs, being on the third floor.
