I went to this retreat hoping to have a lovely warm bath outside. According to hotel staff they cannot have water hot due to council regs so after spending about an hour filling the bath (you have to wait for hot water tank to heat twice!) I sat in tepid water in tassie winter wishing I was warmer. Perhaps if the bath had a lid to put over between filling it might stay warmer? Thankfully the fire place inside was well going when we arrived and the cabin was otherwise nice!
Difficult to find with GPS. Then nobody to orientate us to location of teepee. Left a map to ponder.
Should have a pitchure of the type of residence - teepee - you were getting. Thought it was a hotel of sorts. Especialy with the pitchures of a shallay on the discription.
Having negotiated a frighteningly narrow unsealed bush track we decided to cut our losses and find other accommodation. At the bottom of the access track are must read notices about how to drive up this terrible track! We should have left then. The accommodation is shabby and run down. We paid over $200 per night and expected the accommodation to be sewered and that we would not have to boil the water to be safe. Even with a four wheel drive the access track is unsafe narrow and rough. Don't risk it ! 4
Receptionist fairly rude, suggested that if I was looking for a spa retreat, which i was not. And implied that the retreat may not be suitable for me. Walks very easy. He also suggested that I book on his website next time because he has to pay 18% commission. Not my fault.
No tv, power points, microwave. To stay here you really need to have the right mindset
No usable power point to charge mobile phones..CD player provided did not work..lack of kettle in the room a real let down.."outdoor entertaining area/ kitchen" did not live up to what was promised. However the tepee was secluded & blissfully quiet. Bathroom facilities though basic (composting toilet) were very good. Gravel driveway was exceedingly steep in parts & could be quite daunting for a novice driver.
We stayed in the Wallaby Grasslands cabin as a family with two younge boys. The cabin had comfortable beds (enough for 8 and extra if needed) in two bedrooms with a wood fire and firewood provided. The kitchen had everything you need to cook your own meals. The cabin is very secluded, warm and clean. There is no TV or Wifi, which was another positive for us. The nature reserve is beautiful and there are walking trails nearby that can be done with a young family. The environment is the main focus of the site and every effort has been made by the owners to ensure that visitors are doing their bit. Pademelons and possums come visiting our porch. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable and we had a great experience. We hired a Hyundai I20 and had no issues getting up hills but you just have to take care getting there. The Huon Valley and Ranelagh is a beautiful place and nothing is too far away, especially if it's nature that you want to see. We thoroughly recommend a stay at this very special place.
Large, family friendly accommodation with very much a bush retreat feel. Suited us perfectly for the one night we were there but please bear in mind it's definitely a bush retreat - minimal electricity, no TV, phone charging, minimal phone reception, minimal plumbing etc. Perfect for a relaxation escape in a beautiful location.
Stayed in the very cosy tipee at Huon bush retreats and loved it! Peaceful, private and set amongst natural bushland it was a very enjoyable, eco friendly experience. Abundant wildlife and run by very environmentally conscious people, there is a real sense of their passion for the bush, it's animals and the preservation of such areas!
