The Algonquin Hotel

I wish I won't book this hotel.

Situated over a bar with a rock band playing loudly until late into the night. No A/C, no elevator, no breakfast. Never, ever again!

Close to river, downtown area. Great deal. Staff was super helpful and friendly

We didn't realize we had booked into a "bathroom optional" hotel so we were a little surprised to find out that one of our rooms did not have one. Luckily they were able to find an unbooked one with an en suite bathroom. The man at the front desk was very helpful and friendly but that's pretty much where the positive comments end. The beds are horrible; very small (doubles) and incredibly soft. My son's 6 foot body hung off the end! The "blanket" was the bedspread, which didn't look clean enough to use so we only had the flat sheet for coverage. Luckily the room was so hot that this wasn't an issue. Each room has a portable fan, plugged into an overstuffed power cord, but because I didn't have a table anywhere near my power outlet, the fan sat on the floor being fairly useless. One of our rooms had a microwave and mini fridge, the other had neither. That room was also missing a bedside lamp, phone and alarm clock. Neither bathroom had hand towels, only facecloths and bath towels. The rooms felt unclean, but there was no indication that they actually were; I think it was just worn out!

As soon as I pulled in, I knew that it wasn't going to be good. My car was loaded with my stuff since I was moving, and some bum was staring at my car. Clerk was polite and showed me to my room. Even though you book through hotels.com and give your credit card number, you actually pay at the hotel. Was surprised that the room didn't have a shower/bathroom, and that it was shared. Bathroom had nowhere to hang clothes/towels, so it was very awkward and tight. Room was well appointed and very old fashioned. Remote didn't work on old TV. Sink in room was clogged and filthy. Worst of all late at night, there was very loud music coming from the bar. It was deafening, and woke me up. It lasted for hours. Definitely one of my most unpleasant stays, and do not recommend, even though the price may be cheap.

The hotel is really old. Closet is very wet and damp.

Close to downtown and tourist attractions ,the internet was fast and my room had a lot of tv channels , room was clean and quiet .

A real GEM of an old hotel. Can't expect more than what you get here. The way it used to be but clean and nice old furniture. Great.

I recently was passing through Sault Ste. Marie and had the opportunity to stay at The Algonquin. It is a cozy little hotel and very quiet. You can tell that the owners are updating the rooms and in my opinion they are looking good. It is in an excellent location within walking distance of shopping and other amenities. I would highly recommend staying here the price is great the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean.

The staff was not prepared to check our reservation even though we called in advance twice to confirm that we are coming after 8pm. The room was not so clean , it took ages to be get the room , the staff fiddled with the keys, asked us for the reservation number, could not access the reservations, did not have the cash register authority and did not know how to turn on the heating in the room . The room was cold and after 2 hours the owner came in and switched the heating on eventually. The heating was switched off after a few hours and upon getting up at 6 am the room was really cold . There were no under sheets for one of the beds and the bathroom shower leaked all over the floor. Insects and hair were found in the bath and on the floor. The towels were spotty and not enough for 3 people even though we requested a room with two double beds to accommodate our child too but the towels were only for two people only.
