The Feathers Hotel

1). It was only after booking this hotel non refundable that I found out that there was a £7 charge for parking. However, there was no space in the car park when we got there. Some mention of the charge should be made and that parking is limited. 2) They were having repairs done to the roof. At 09.20 there was loud banging on the other side of the ceiling above the bed. Not conducive to a relaxing stay. 3) The view from the top room left something to be desired.

REPORTED A LOT OF FLIES IN ROOM , ESPECIALLY AROUND SECONDARY DOUBLE GLAZING.

History. Quirky. Location.

Car park a bit tighter than expected. But now knowing the proximity of the pay and display car park just behind it- which we had to use anyway- this would be the preferred choice again in the future.

The history and the quality of the furnishings.

I wasn't aware that there would be so many steps. There was a lift to the first floor. From there, along several corridors, there were about 25 steps up and down to my room, including a flight of 12, or was it 13? In the ensuite, there are two rather high steps and no handrails. This I found most inconvenient and dangerous. I realise this is a very old building built on a gradient, but perhaps guests should have prior warning that access to some rooms involves all these steps. Not everybody has full mobility, and staff didn't offer to assist with my luggage. At checkout, there was some confusion when I learned that I had been charged and my card debited for another room's meal and parking fees. I was told that reimbursement could take several days.

Staff

Very small room. No air-conditioning and window had restricted opening. No bedside table and light on one side. Room not ready until 17:30. Car park was full.
