The Abbey Hotel

A very friendly welcoming hotel serving delicious homecooked food. Perfect location in the centre of town

The location was ideal, overlooking the Abbey! Rooms were cosy, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was superb and fresh!

The room and bathroom were very small..

The room itself was lovely clean, comfortable, and nicely presented. The hotel has a nice atmosphere and a great view of the abbey from the front. The room had the potential to be a very pleasant stay.

Unfortunately there were several issues that made the stay uncomfortable. The heating in the room was not working until around 8pm, which meant the room was very cold for most of the evening. In addition, the bathroom extractor fan runs constantly and cannot be switched off, creating continuous noise. Because of this I had to move rooms, which was inconvenient. Even after moving, the experience had already impacted the stay and I had a very poor night’s sleep. Considering the price paid, the stay felt like poor value for money

We were visiting Battle, for a friend’s wedding, last October but unfortunately hadn’t booked the Abbey Hotel. The place we did book was very basic and didn’t offer food or a bar, so we went in search of some dinner and a few drinks. On entering the Abbey Hotel bar, we were immediately blown away by the cheerful welcome and then by the incredible autumnal decor. Commenting on this, we were told that the decor changes with the season and with whatever calendar event is happening at any given time. Long story, not so short, we had dinner there and breakfast on both days of our stay in Battle. Everything was perfect, both food and service. Nothing is too much trouble and staff make time to chat and make you feel really welcome. We returned for a stay at the Abbey Hotel in February and were delighted with our room, the same warm welcome and the wonderful food. This is definitely on our list of favourite places to stay and I’ve no doubt we’ll return again soon.
