"Lovely place. Great staff"

8.0

Lovely place. Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, tasteful decor. The castle atmosphere is delightful. The staff are very professional and helpful. The food was good and the Wine Cellar bar very cosy. Not quite 5 stars..would benefit from a lounge area with a nice log fire and some comfy chairs....nowhere just to sit and relax with a coffee and a book.

"Disappointing afternoon tea"

4.0

We went for an afternoon tea and it was pretty much trouble start to end. When booking (we had gift vouchers), it took 3 phone calls to get it right. Either the dietary requirements were taken down incorrectly or the number of people. Upon arrival, we were informed that it was an extra £5 per person because of the day we booked it on rather than the £5 per voucher we had been told over the phone. Despite them knowing that one person was celiac and another was vegetarian from the point of booking, they needed that information again and also the second I was seated, I was thrust a piece of paper with an email address to send the vouchers to which took a while. It felt rude to the rest of the party to be sat there on my phone as I did it - as opposed to them looking at the voucher on my phone or using the voucher code that I gave them over the phone when I booked. It didn’t seem too busy, perhaps there are more rooms but the wait service was practically non existent. We were in the back room rather than the main room and after 50 minutes of waiting to be served our food, we asked if they had maybe forgotten us and the food swiftly followed. Sadly, the bread was totally stale - I suspect it had been sat out for a long while and maybe that was why… I would’ve said something at the time if any staff had been around. It was just a bit of a ‘meh’ experience that I don’t suspect the Cheshire housewives would experience had they booked.

"Go at your peril if there is an event on!"

6.0

We took advantage of a deal, direct with the Castle for dinner, bed and breakfast, on a Tuesday evening, March 2026. The castle is beautiful, the dinner in the Brasserie; chicken liver parfait and chilli chicken starters, both lovely and fish & chips which was so nice but… don’t get the cheese and biscuits as was £18 for a few Jacob’s crackers and tiny strips of cheddar, Cheshire and Brie. That’s it. Very beige, a few grapes and one very sorrowful tiny piece of celery. We got no butter, or knife or side plate ! After a couple of drinks in the gorgeous wine cellar we went off to enjoy our beautiful bedroom and that’s when at 10:45 the loudest DJ set started that absolutely rocked the bedroom! I’m not joking! We had never heard anything so loud. The walls were shaking with each distorted beat. We obviously phoned reception and asked for the duty Manager to come and experience the noise we were expected to endure in our romantic couples stay in the heart of Cheshire. He explained that it would stop at midnight and there were no other rooms free, so basically put up and shut up! So in summary, the venue is beautiful, the food was lovely (leave the cheese and biscuits) but before booking, ensure there is no DJ /party event booked, unless you’ve been invited to it, of course, or ensure that you’re not in the wing above the ‘party room’. It ruined our stay completely.

"Peaceful Setting. Food not great."

8.0

The castle looks very impressive. Both close up and from a distance. We stayed for three nights. Our room was clean and was a good size. We could only find one channel on our TV. When we asked at reception we were told that was quite normal! The over bath shower head was angled towards the back of the bath, and couldn’t be adjusted. Generally we found the breakfasts (in particular on the first day), to be very poor. I couldn’t cut my bacon. Everything was completely dried up. I suspect the cooked food had been left under the heated lights for too long. The evening meals were limited in choice. The vegetarian roasted beetroot dish was not adequate enough as a main course. It needed a flat bread or something similar to accompany it. The cheese choices for dessert were poor. The bar menu had no prices next to any of the drinks. I thought this was illegal! Not transparent with prices at all. When we were due to leave, we went to pay our bill, only to find we had another guest’s food and drinks bill added to our bill! My signature and the other guest were nothing like each other. We had been overcharged by £70+! Make sure you check your final account! There needs to be more signage for being able to drop off/pick up luggage from the front door. The car park signage didn’t make it clear that we could bring our car up to outside reception. All the staff were lovely, so helpful and friendly. The castle is in a quiet and peaceful location.

"Didn’t Sleep a Wink…"

6.0

I thought I would give the hotel every opportunity to get back to me following our stay for 1 night on 20th February after attending a Land Rover Experience Day within the grounds. Despite the opulence of the Castle, our stay in a “family room” which is also used as an accessible room, was far far from opulent! We stopped in room 200 the Oultan, located on the ground floor. After a lovely meal in the Brasserie, we retreated back to our room with our 6 year old for bed around 9pm……. to the noise of people walking up and down constantly in the room above which I later found out was the 1851 restaurant - this did seem to quieten off just after midnight. At 2am the footsteps and creaking started again and unfortunately it’s very hard to un-hear a noise especially at that time in the morning. I sent an email at 3am but by 3.30am I had had enough and took myself to reception to find out what was going on, only to be met by the night porter who appeared from the very same restaurant, he was very apologetic and the noise then thankfully stopped! I complained to reception on check out and they removed the service charges from our food bill which in hindsight was out of order as we never had an issue with the serving staff, just the room we was allocated. I filled in the email survey with and a lady called me back late afternoon on the Saturday to talk this through, she wanted to investigate my concerns and said she would be back in touch in 24hrs…. Over a week later with a follow up email from myself, I am still waiting for this call back!

"Peckforton Castle"

10.0

The hotel is off the normal roads but looks great when you see it. You can drop off outside the reception then use the car park. On arriving the receptionists' were great made you feel welcome our room was on the top floor and no lift so a lot of stairs. The taster menu was fantastic and chef came out to explain the meal no and again and when he didn't the waitress new what was in the meal to explain to you. Room was was good size and in keeping of the castle. Breakfast was good selection, yes we would go back again

"Disappointing, lack of attention to detail"

6.0

We visited for the Indulgent afternoon tea with friends to celebrate a special Birthday. The exterior of the castle is spectacular but the reception entrance is poorly signposted and we struggled to find our way to the Brasserie so we didn’t feel particularly welcomed. We were disappointed by the ambience in the Brasserie, it could have felt quite special with a little more attendance to detail, perhaps tablecloths on the table, it did actually feel like being in a cafe! It was not particularly busy but we had to try and catch the attention of staff in order to be served. Food was okay but underwhelming. The beef sandwiches had thick chunks of beef containing large pieces of fat which our guests were unable to eat. Small cakes were okay, but we had to cut each of them in half as there wasn’t one each. We did have a nice afternoon and it was special going to the castle, but I have had far nicer afternoon teas elsewhere and I probably would not return. I was disappointed as it was a treat for our friends. This comment might seem harsh, but given the price I’d expected more.
