Knockderry Country House Hotel

Worst hotel during our journey through Scotland. Room and the bathroom in particular dirty. Noise from the kitchen. Furniture worn out. Breakfast with limited options and not well presented. But the waitress was nice.

Absolutely loved everything about this hotel. Exceptional rooms, dining was amazing 👏 Views were incredible, staff went above and beyond, best hotel in Scotland.

Karakteristiek gebouw gelegen op een mooie locatie. Bij aankomst zeer vriendelijk en enthousiast ontvangen en rondgeleid door de dienstdoende dame. Ook de andere personeelsleden waren tijdens ons verblijf erg vriendelijk.

Bij nadere inspectie van onze kamer bleken er nog (gebruikte?) tissues onder het bed te liggen, ook zat er een grote gele vlek in het hoeslaken van het onderste matras (waarom er 2 matrassen op elkaar lagen was voor ons sowieso een vraagteken, droeg in ieder geval niet toe aan de stabiliteit en het comfort). Na melding van datgene wat we aantroffen is dit weliswaar direct opgepakt, maar mag gewoon niet gebeuren. Diner was redelijk, maar niet wat je mag verwachten voor de prijs. Daarnaast tot 2x toe een fles wijn besteld welke vervolgens niet op voorraad was. 1e avond nog een (duurder) alternatief genomen, 2e avond hiervan afgezien (voelde niet goed). TV was een behoorlijk verouderd model welke ook nog eens niet werkte. Comfort van de meeste meubels in de 'huiskamer' was ver te zoeken; meeste zitmeubelen zakten erg door. Al met al een teleurstellend verblijf, zeker voor de prijs. Van een 4-sterren verblijf mag je meer verwachten; het voelde allemaal als vergane glorie.

A beautiful old house in a great position to explore the area. A very comfortable hotel with a welcoming feel.

Very good sized room (no. 16) in The Spire. It was nice to have a chair each and a double-width footstool so we could relax in the room without having to lay on the bed. It was a nice surprise to have a separate bath. The drawing room was also a pleasant and comfortable place to relax outside of the room.

When we moved the double-width footstool, it was very obvious that nobody else had moved it for a while to clean that bit of carpet. The bath water didn't really get hot (although it was just about warm enough for a short bath). When we went down for breakfast in the morning, bottles, glasses and plates from the previous evening were still on the tables in the drawing room - I would have thought these would be cleared away first thing. It's a small point, but I expected better from a four-star hotel. This was the last stay on our eleven-day road trip around Scotland, and I would say that, while sufficient, the breakfast was the worst one we had during our vacation, being no better than average. Again, this may not have mattered, had we paid less for the stay, but we stayed at a three-star hotel on our first night for less than half of the price and had a breakfast that was twice as good.

Beautiful hotel and location, although the final few miles are quite twisty and narrow, but that's were the peace and solitude come from. Receptionist Lucy was very helpful. Relatively quiet especially after ten o'clock....considerate other guests! I'm making some additions now I'm home with other properties as reference. This was by far the best hotel on my NC500 trip from Cornwall, possibly the nicest I've ever stayed in. I'd definitely stay here again on my next visit to Scotland. Recommended.

To criticise any aspect would be harsh indeed.

L'hôtel est vraiment joli et le cadre plaisant. Calme et beaucoup de nature.

Le petit déjeuner était médiocre. Quand on demande une simple omelette, on nous l'a refuse.. et choix proposé limité. Le personnel est incompétent. Soit ils font la tête, soit ils vous demande d'ouvrir les bouteilles, soit elle vous engueule parce que vous n'avez pas réservé. Il faut attendre longtemps avant d'être servi. Ne tiennent pas compte des allergies Ne respectent pas leurs clients. Les chambres sont vieillottes et poussiéreuses. Les tapis sont sales et tâchés. Finalement, c'est très cher pour un service et une prestation déplorable.
