The Midland Hotel

Generally fine but ....

Shower didn't work. (ROOM2) We pulled the cord to operate the pump as instructed but no joy. No other power switch found. Reported it at breakfast but was told that noone was around to discuss it or give rebate.

Room was described as small when we checked in but it was alright for my mum and myself for 2 nights.

The room was warm, clean and basic (in a good way). It was an ideal stop for a night’s stay. The area is an easy train ride from central Leeds. It doesn’t have much to offer although an excellent RSPB reserve is nearby. I would judge that the area is safe. The Midland is on a fairly busy road. It’s a busy pub but the accommodation is not directly in the pub so not affected by noise from that source, at least not on a cold wet night. I paid separately for breakfast. It was good value. I understand the business has recently changed hands so all staff are keen to make a good impression. Check in was in the bar and on the day I checked in it was very busy so I had to wait a bit. A bit of patience at busy times maybe necessary.

I think I’ve put everything I wanted to say above. None of this was something not to like. The Midland proved an excellent choice for a no-frills overnight stay.

Modern and comfortable room. Easy to walk to the train station Surprisingly minimal traffic noise considering it’s not far from the road. Separate ‘stables’ building out the back of the pub so no noise from the pub. Free parking on site

Pipes to the bathroom towel heater quite noisy all night and there didn’t seem to be a way to turn the towel heater off

The staff are excellent

Work was being done so it’s not fair to comment
