The Sheldon B&B

I would absolutely love to give this accommodation 5 stars, but unfortunately, I am unable to. Starting with the positives: The location of Sheldon is excellent for the theatre, beach, and pier. The breakfast was very good – a cooked option plus toast, cereals, fresh fruit, and juices. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made me feel at ease straight away. The building itself is quaint with lovely artwork, and the social areas were comfortable with reasonably priced snacks and drinks available in the lounge. I also appreciated the free parking, although getting in and out of the car park was a little tight, and I can imagine it would be tricky if it were full. The room itself was nicely presented and comfortable in appearance. However, unfortunately, I didn’t sleep well at all. The window couldn’t be closed and was stuck open a few inches. I only realised this after midnight when I wanted to shut it because of the breeze, but I couldn’t. By that time, I was already too tired to try arranging a room move, so I just had to manage as best I could. The receptionist confirmed the next morning that the window could not be closed. Although it wasn’t freezing, the window was directly opposite the head of the bed, and with the constant breeze, I felt like I was camping. On top of this, I couldn’t fully close the blind because the breeze kept rattling it, so it was either a choice of a direct breeze or lots of rattling. If I were to return, I would love to have a room with a window that can be both opened and closed properly, as I feel that would make all the difference – and I would then happily give Sheldon the 5-star rating it deserves in every other respect.

We only stayed one night at this lovely, little, quirky b&b and would highly recommend staying here! All the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially CK the resident dog - he made our stay just perfect! The breakfast is highly recommended too and tea and coffee is complimentary in your room and also in the honesty bar/lounge area too throughout your stay. Free on-site parking is a bonus too! We will definitely be back!

Lovely overnight stay. Our room was huge, very clean! Welcoming owner and dog. Great location. We even had a roll top bath! Very fancy.

Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Good room size, fabulous decoration downstairs on particular. Lovely lounge area, great all day access to the dining area with microwave and fridge. Great to have the option of eating in less expensively. Great choice of breakfast options too! Centrally placed as well so we didn’t need to take the car out all the time.

Wonderful one night stay at the Sheldon. Room (15) was large, with BIG windows, sofa, roll top bath! Friendly welcome from the owner and a little tour of the hotel too. Great communal areas for relaxing. I’d recommend the Omelette with everything for breakfast. They recommended an Italian nearby for dinner, Pomadoro and Mozzarella , the carbonara was fantastic. Great stay, which we could have stayed another day, week, month. As for car parking it’s tight but I managed to get my GLC round back without too much drama 🤗

Fantastic. Quirky b&b Just had 1 night here and room was very spacious and comfortable with large settee Full English breakfast was very tasty. Met owner Steve on arrival and lovely bloke We wanted to go to an Indian and he recommended Ashoka in the town which was excellent. After great day on pier having drinks and listening to various artists singing it capped off a great day. Very reasonable price too £125 with breakfast We would highly recommend this B&B No doubt we will be returning

Very comfortable night at the Sheldon B&B. Single room on 2nd floor with en-suite shower. Tea and coffee available in the room. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast. Easy walk to promenade.

Friendly - value for money

I was at the Sheldon for 10 days and felt welcome and comfortable. The single room was simple but comfortable, and breakfast in the dining room each morning was a treat with all manner of different and interesting guests to meet and chat with every day. The location, being so close to the beach and the town is great and the staff are universally lovely. It's like a big family. I had a hire car and the parking at the rear of the premises was a real bonus, even though getting through the very narrow access point was challenge every single day! I had only one concern - the lack of any laundry facilities. I can understand not having anything for overnight guests, but when you stay somewhere for an extended period, as I did, then this becomes a serious issue. I do believe that a concession on this point would result in return business without hesitation.

My second stay here. Good location, very good value, friendly welcome by the owner and great breakfast.
