The Falcon Hotel

The room was comfortable. The breakfast was good. The location was ideal.

No evening dining is available on a Sunday but this was not a problem as in easy walking distance there were other places to eat.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The Butty Bach on tap was delicious. Breakfast was very good - bacon, sausage, mushrooms, two types of toast, coffee and tea, fresh orange juice, etc., all included in the price of the room.

The bed in our room was the most uncomfortable that I have slept (well, tried to sleep) in over the last 60 years. The room itself was very small. There was only one bedside table and one bedside light for two people, so one of us had nowhere to put anything and couldn't read. The furniture was old and rickety. In the en suite bathroom the extractor fan didn't work, the toilet seat was loose and there was an intermittent leak that made the cistern continue to fill (quite noisily). The food in the restaurant was crude and unpleasant - my wife's duck was cold (instead of warm) and hadn't been cooked for long enough; one of the cheeses in my ploughman's was stale; the bread was soft, flaky and flavourless; and the salads were meagre (one cherry tomato per person and a lot of spinach and watercress). The homemade ice cream tasted exactly like frozen cream.

The hotel is in an old building. The floors are uneven and very creaky to be expected. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom wet tired. The bar was very quiet but the landlord was very friendly and chatted with me for some time which made being solo pleasant. WIFI works just fine through the building. Breakfast was lovely.

Staff were friendly and helpful at check-in. Room was small but had everything we needed. Breakfast was a highlight - great value for money.

It was clean, The girls that worked there were friendly. The food was lovely and the location was in the middle of the village.

They didn't serve dinner on a Sunday or a Monday even for residents. The room was old and the shower wasn't very powerful.The hotel would be good for one night and we stopped for 3 nights.

The host John was very friendly and accommodating, the food was all home cooked and extremely good, exceptional value all in a beautiful old, character building.
