Skjaldarvik Guest House

This is a modern and nicely designed family-run hotel with comfortable rooms, and nice communal areas. The staff were really helpful and friendly, giving us a 'northern lights' knock on our room door and advice about things to do, road conditions etc. The hot tub outside (with dressing gowns provided) was a great bonus as we did manage to catch some mid-level northern lights activity whilst in the tub. Substantial and varied buffet breakfast in the morning was great. Would happily have stayed longer.

Just a stones throw form Akureyri. We got in rather late at night after some long driving and dinner in town. The managers left us a note with a room key. There was free coffee and tea at all hours in the lobby. They have a honesty bar where you can grab a drink and just write what you took to add to the bill. This was awesome considering we got in late after some long driving and could both use a drink. the facility is clean, bathrooms are shared but large and never had a line. The best part of this place other than the people who run it...the breakfast. It is amazing. Home made jams x 5, home made breads, meats, cheese, fruits. We didn't want to leave. We were a little hesitant to stay outside the city but its not far and we definitely made the right choice

This was the best place I stayed at in Iceland. The staff was very nice and helpful. I greatly appreciated being able to be notified if anyone happened to see the Northern Lights! Very cute decor. So crafty and creative! There were 5 bathrooms, so I never had to wait in line. The rooms are large, so I felt very comfortable.

Great place to stay with quirky design and wonderful service. Also, a hot tub and awesome breakfast. Some distance away from akureyri, if it concerns you. but if you're here, chances are you're driving so it hardly makes any difference. Loved it and would come back if I can.

I booked in last minute and didn't expect much. But it became my first choice when I came back to Akureyri the day after. The guesthouse is spacious with cozy atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I saw the northern light here for the first time. It was a pleasant stay.

Skjaldarvik Guest House has the most helpful and friendly staff. Upon arrival they showed us around the property and explained how everything worked from the hot tub to the restaurant. Sitting outside in the hot tub gazing at the stars is amazing. Followed by a delicious breakfast to fuel us for the next day of exploring the city. Staying next to the bathroom was a little loud in the morning because the doors are very heavy.

What a gorgeous guest house! This place changed our ideas of them completely. It was located just outside the city and on the water and it was beautiful. The younger staff was beyond cheerful and helpful, the older woman who checked us out wasn't as pleasant but everyone did help us. This place was relaxing and felt like you're just staying with a friend.

Stayed here for one night on our trip around Iceland but wish it could have been longer. Hands down the best place we stayed in the whole of Iceland. The double room we had was spacious and wonderfully decorated. The food was excellent both dinner (the lamb was the best we had on the island) and breakfast (superb selection including homemade treats). The staff amongst the friendliest people we met in Iceland. The hot tub overlooking the fjord just tops the whole experience off. It's the little extra things that set this guesthouse apart and demonstrate that willingness and desire to make your stay memorable. Could not recommend this place anymore. We will be back :).

Wonderful staff, great breakfast. Relaxing reading room. Everything clean. Nice views. Would def stay there again. Eating dinner there is a must do, lamb & pasta were especially delicious.
