Ringwood Hall Hotel & Spa

Visited the spa as a birthday gift. Sadly we discovered that several areas in the spa, one of the pools and the tropical shower, were not working. Despite visiting in the morning, the complimentary shower gel and body lotion in the shower area were empty. Attempted to contacted the Spa Manager Toni, following our visit, but 5 phone calls and 3 emails later, still no response!

No hot water - it was only tepid warm despite running it long enough to fill the bath at 22.30. In the days before getting to the hotel I had no less than three emails offering an upgrade - "click below and name your price" with the additional amount "being paid directly to the hotel". We didn't want an upgrade and didn't take up the offers. Having checked in at 19.30 we were directed back out of the main hotel door and to follow the building round to the back - at least 50 meters dragging a case, and to enter by the propped open fire door to access our room. No explanation was given for this and fortunately it wasn't raining. Next morning I mentioned to reception our problem with the water. The receptionist apologised and said she would sort something out and while we were having breakfast someone had a look at the system and got the hot water running - however by that time it was too late as we were up and dressed and ready for the drive home. I was very disappointed in the staff response which ranged from yes we will sort out a refund (for the lack of water) to a later phone call which I made to them after we had left the hotel where I was told there would be no refund as the water was now working properly. We stayed at 6 different hotels during our UK touring holiday (all roughly similar in price and facilities) and this was the only one with tepid water! Frankly it's not good enough as at the point the problem was fixed we were all packed and ready to go. The hotel was badly in need of a refurb - the rooms were old fashioned with very dated sanitary ware in the bathroom. Staff attitude was very poor and we won't be back.

Great property, clean and comfy

Very tired hotel. Similar to Fawlty Towers. Room was miles away from main building and the receptionist did not know where is was, which was not funny in the dark.

Booked a short break here of three nights to use as a base to get out and about in glorious Derbyshire. Visited Chesterfield which I hadn’t been to for 26 years. Went out to Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock-Bath. An ideal location for visiting the area. A stunning hotel set in lovely grounds with beautiful gardens. All of the staff I encountered were friendly, helpful and courteous. Even when I had an issue with the shower in room 141 someone was sent up to sort it out. The only snag I did find being in the old main building was the bedroom window didn’t open, so it got quite warm. Thankfully there was a fan provided, so made great use of that.

We had to change room due to the fact it was situated 200m from the main building in a “ lodge”??- this turned out to be a rundown , tatty building on the main road. The room was dated and disgusting. We changed to a room in the same building but upstairs so the noise wasn’t as bad but still a very disappointing experience. Had I not been driving all day I would’ve left within 20 minutes of arrival.

Arrived at the hotel, booked a standard room, provided a dark dirty room in a lodge. Bothy lodge- last updated 2008. Carpet disgusting, nets on window dirty and torn, furniture old and chipped- odour awful. No alternative, no return call from hotel despite leaving requests to speak with manager. Another guest also complained and has to rooms- we couldn’t as there were no other rooms available. We checked out.

The hotel’s location was truly beautiful and the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, the rest didn’t live up to expectations. We booked an executive double room but were given two single beds pushed together. The room felt dated, not particularly clean, and lacked basic conveniences like bedside sockets. For a 4-star hotel, being told to fill water bottles from the bathroom was disappointing, and the amenities were low quality. Overall, not worth the price we paid. The setting was lovely, but the experience fell far short of a true 4-star standard.

Plenty of parking available, reception very welcoming. Quite a trip to the room, up and down stairs so if you struggle with that, maybe ask for an easier room. Food was very good but the restaurant staff very forgetful.
