Aktaion Hotel

I stayed at Aktaion Hotel with my wife for two days, and had a pleasant experience. The hotel is very well positioned for those that don't want to spring to stay on the rock, and the options for food surrounding the hotel are wonderful. Overall, our stay here was great. The room had a fantastic view of the rock of Monemvasia from one balcony, and the other balcony overlooked the small harbor at Gefira. In general, this was a great option, and I would definitely stay here again. The only two notes that I have that could be improved were: The water in the shower is not very hot. Warm enough for a quick shower, but on a cold night in Greece, a hot shower is enjoyable. The other is that the smoke smell from other rooms can be pretty strong. It was not overwhelming, but at times those that are sensitive to smoke could have issues with the smell from other rooms seeping in through the door. Neither of these issues were deal breakers for us, it just depends on your preferences...

I recently stayed at Hotel Aktaion for two nights and my experience went from bad to worse from the minute I walked in. Firstly they did not have my booking even though the owner confirmed it on the phone. They managed to give me a room with water views after I made a fuss. Bathroom was horrible, mattress was unacceptable and the hotel is so dated and in need of a major upgrade. After I checked out and went back to Athens I realised I had left my denim jacket there and rang the hotel. They found it and said they would keep it there for me until I picked it up. Someone I know went to pick it up 5 days later and it was no longer there, one of their staff members had stolen it. I rang the owner and she was abusive and rude towards me refusing to take responsibility. After our firm discussion she finally accepted responsibility and I asked her to return my jacket or pay me for the loss. The jacket cost 100 euro but she only paid me 50 euro even after I repeatedly called her and asked for my reimbursement. Furthermore she did not give me a receipt for the money I paid for the accommodation. Obviously they don't want o pay tax so conveniently forget to issue invoices to their customers. DO NOT STAY AT THIS AWFUL HOTEL, you will regret it and it will ruin your stay. It ruined my 3 days in Monemvasia and has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Perfect location for Monemvasia, budget-priced, clean ( air conditioned!) room with large balcony facing the bay and the beachfront (and the lighted rock with castle ruins at night). Food was deliciously varied, presented with genuine care -- clearly a family-owned hotel where guests are regarded as important visitors. Location is right at the start of the causeway, 20-minutes' easy walk to Monemvasia -- where we enjoyed dessert each evening in a tiny medieval 'home' atop the rock.

I made a reservation in this hotel. I would pass there after visiting the Elafonisos Island. I called them several times but the receptionist couldn't speak English. I wrote them also an e-mail about transport support from Pounta to Monemvasia but i could'nt get an answer. So i cancelled my reservation. I am glad to see their quality before going there. I would'nt recommend this hotel

Our family room had a view on the sea and the rock of Monemvassia. Although the hotel is at the bridgehead to the old city, the room was silent (in off season I have to add). The room was furnished appealingly, the bath is not too spacious. 5 of us could fit, but the room is optimal for 4 persons.

Really for a one star hotel this was a lovely stay with great view and very nice staff which really accommodated our late arrival on the ferry boat .. Great place I would recommend it.

Well priced, well located hotel with comfy rooms and good facilities. Closest on the mainland to the causeway to the rock. Bus arrived and departed from right outside and the travel agent next door sold the tickets. Perfect!
