"Character hotel in The Pantiles - but give the Small Double Room a miss"

8.0

Hotel located within The Pantiles. Attractive and well-maintained character building. Pleasant staff. Warm and quiet room.

Evening meal okay but pricey for what it was. Although we were expecting a small bed, we weren't expecting one side of the double to be against a wall - very difficult getting in and out of bed. Really difficult walk from rail station, even though it's fairly close - dreadful traffic management, so pedestrians are hemmed in by fast roads at the station entrance and at junction leading to Pantiles. This is clearly not the fault of the hotel, but the local authority could do much to make the town attractive to those arriving by train.

"Overpriced, dirty and cold"

2.0

I visited this restaurant for Mother’s Day. From the outside, it appears pleasant and the setting initially gives a good impression. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet expectations. Service was a key issue. The waiter lacked professionalism and basic hospitality etiquette. While a friendly approach is always welcome, the interaction felt overly casual and at times intrusive. We were frequently interrupted, items were removed from the table without warning, and there was little effort made to create a welcoming or attentive atmosphere. Simple courtesies such as a proper greeting or being given time to decide were noticeably absent. The food was particularly disappointing. It arrived cold, appeared poorly prepared, and the quality was not in line with the price point. At £44 per person for a set menu, a reasonable standard is expected, but unfortunately this was not delivered. Additionally, being charged £16 per glass for what seemed to be a low quality wine felt excessive. Cleanliness and upkeep were also concerning. The venue felt dated and not well maintained. The high chair provided was visibly unclean, with grease marks, and overall hygiene standards did not appear satisfactory. The dining area itself was uncomfortably cold, with no noticeable heating. In summary, the experience was let down by poor service, substandard food, and a lack of cleanliness. Given the pricing, a much higher level of quality and professionalism is expected.
