Oban Hotel

Lift not working. Only intermittent TV reception

Exactly opposite the promenade.

Struggled to get HEAT on in room.

This could be an excellent hotel as it has a wonderful seafront view overlooking the Wishtower. Good communication by text message and they did check that I had checked in. Very polite guy phoned me to actually speak to me so that's a plus.

There are no staff. The hotel is run remotely, apparently 24 hours. With the exception that clean towels and toiletries are supplied, this is actually a hostel. It has obviously had a past glory but greed from previous owners I presume mean that there are 31 rooms crammed in. There is no breakfast (no staff) and some fire extinguishers are missing. I got in to the hotel because someone was smoking outside and so they let me in. I am somewhat sceptical about the 24 hours-ness of the remote reception! The room absolutely stank - which I suspect they knew because the window was open - just some air freshener was all it would have taken. Furniture old and bashed with a mattress that I suspect has never been changed. Such a shame, it could be lovely again with investment since it is just around the corner from the conference centre. The person I spoke to on the phone said it was a budget hotel.

Staff very accommodating and friendly. Room comfortable and clean

Poor state of overall decor, bathroom was dirty and a massive water stain on the ceiling in the bedroom. Overall it lacked any sense of being a hotel.
