"Glad we came back"

10.0

Having stayed at Corse Lawn several times in the past, we wondered if it would be as good under new ownership. However, we needn’t have worried, it was definitely just as good, indeed in some ways better. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was great. On a DBB break for two nights it might have been nice to have a different menu for the second night, but we decided there were at least two choices on each course that appealed to us so we were more than happy. Our break coincided with fabulous weather and we really appreciated our glass of rose in the new courtyard which is a great addition to the hotel. Other renovations were being made while we were there and we will be interested to see what has been done on our next visit, and yes there will be one!

"Good things take time, Better things take a little longer."

10.0

Due to a very special occasion break having to be cancelled unexpectedly, we decided to celebrate at a local hotel. Dan and his team were attentive from the moment I made contact to enquire about a last minute reservation. Karen communicated promptly and the booking was confirmed. From the moment we entered the newly refurbished reception area and were welcomed by Dan to checkout the next day we were treated as though we were VIP’s. Dan is slowly updating and refurbishing the whole building slowly but extremely tastefully. Our room although not yet part of the updates was a very spacious triple aspect with luxury towels and bathrobes. Very clean with decent refreshments and a kettle. The bed was luxuriously comfortable and huge. Tea overlooking the pond was a bonus. Dinner was efficiently and professionally served by Stephan. Our meal, steak & salmon was cooked to perfection. The next morning Lisa very kindly and cheerfully moved us to a patio table due to the heat. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was superb, a selection of cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc followed by a choice of full English, kippers, smoked salmon etc We wish Dan & his team the best of luck for the future, with his dedication and team spirit, this hotel deserves to be applauded. Thank you for an exceptional stay.

"We had a really excellent stay - far removed from the modern, corporate style of hotel"

10.0

This hotel was an excellent find. We booked the three-night package, which included a cream tea and dinner, bed and breakfast for two of the three nights. Location - very peaceful indeed - lovely duck pond in front of the hotel. This, we believe, is a Grade II listed building which we understand, changed ownership in September 2025. Obviously, a lot of renovation and restoration needed doing and is taking place, no doubt with all the attendant challenges of renovating a Grade II listed building. The work which has so far been done looks to be excellent. Our bedroom needed upgrading but nevertheless, was still very clean and comfortable. It was evident that the whole hotel is gradually being "overhauled", but we were not disappointed in any way shape or form. We were to go back next week, or at any time, we would be quite happy to go back to the same room we had - renovated or not. The restaurant - this is one of the areas which has been renovated. We were very appreciative of the white tablecloth touch - so sorely absent in many hotels these days. The food was excellent. Breakfasts and dinners were freshly cooked, hot and tasty. There was the occasional short wait, especially for freshly cooked food, but well worth it. The wine was exceptionally good and not overpriced - in our opinion. One thing we really appreciated was that the dinner menu had slight changes each evening. We spoke to the chef and he put his finger on it: "If we have guests staying several nights, we don't want them to feel that everything is aways the same, so we try to give them as much choice as we can". Great comment and way of working! The staff - without exception - everyone was professional, courteous and very friendly - nothing was too much trouble. There are plenty of towns and villages within easy reach of this peaceful haven. Conclusion - we were really pleased to have found this hotel and we can see that over time (Rome wasn't built in a day), the Corse Lawn hotel will become many people's favourite - and most certainly ours. Will we go back? Absolutely. Hat's off to the new owners. They have done a lot of work and there is still a lot of work to do, but they have put the foundations - renovations, staff and restaurant - into place. This really shows through in all aspects of the hotel. Thank you for a super stay.

"We were made to feel very welcome."

Had a charm about it. Elegantly furnished. Because of dog we sat in bar area but there was white tablecloth and silver just like the dining area. Staff were attendant and nothing was too much trouble.

No lifts, but it was only one flight of stairs.

"A grave disappointment"

4.0

I've read the recent reviews that have been written since the new ownership and can only think we stayed on a bad night. We have stayed here many times over the years and always been delighted with the comfort and hospitality, not this time. At dinner the wine we chose was put on our table, the wine waiter did not show us the bottle to ensure it was indeed the one we'd chosen, he did not open it or pour it. The texture of my husband's braised venison suggested it was reheated from the freezer, the broccoli was inedible. My triple cooked chips may indeed have been dipped in oil three times but were barely cooked. Then there is the hospitality in the room - home cooked biscuits replaced by packets of broken biscuits, a miserable two teabags and plastic milk. Breakfast was the final straw, my husband ordered coffee and toast and was served burnt toast and a jug of instant coffee. Not what one expects from a country house hotel. Sally the receptionist was very welcoming and Julie the waitress was very helpful.

"Great location, friendly staff, perfect."

Last minute search for an overnight stay on our tour, very surprised at quality of this quaint little hotel in a quiet location, but within easy travelling distance of tourist attractions. Will definitely use agin in the future.
