Alexander Mansion Bed and Breakfast

We felt very taken care of. Richard made sure we had everything we needed and provided suggestions for restaurants and activities in the area. The breakfast was phenomenal and we enjoyed getting to know the other guests. The place is beautiful and there were little thoughtful touches everywhere. We want to come back when it's warm and enjoy the screened in porch!

The weather! It was -17° brrrr!

It was a unique experience. We were treated so well and got to learn the history of the house and family. We were in Winona for a family wedding and decided to stay here. Having grown up in Winona we had passed the house but never had a chance to go inside. Richard is an excellent cook and host! The wonderful breakfast gave us time to have interesting conversations with the other guests.

The stay itself is remarkable - all of adorable downtown Winona is within walking distance, the mansion is beautiful and clean (and smells like delicious soap/laundry), the breakfast was hearty, and the price can't be beat. What you don't know until you visit, though, is that the Alexander Mansion is a one-of-a-kind GEM that we will need to return to over and over again to enjoy, and it's all thanks to Richard, the magical host and mansion caretaker. He will warmly greet you and tell you stories of the house and town's history, give you a tour of the luxurious decorations (including a stuffed peacock and original white oak woodwork), give you the best tips on places to see in Winona during your stay, and make you feel like you're his guest in a true home, not a hotel. He is one of the warmest and kindest souls I've had the honor of meeting. Should you stay with Richard at the Alexander Mansion, you will be pampered like royalty. Complimentary wine is available upon arrival, and there's sherry for a nightcap if you so desire. Richard is seemingly always available should you need help. The room was cozy and quiet all night. Coffee was served at 7:15 am, and breakfast at 9 - dish after dish was brought out, all carefully made and plated by Richard (and David, another lovely gentleman), from parfaits to egg soufflés and ham steaks to parmesan green beans... with a lovely ice cream sundae to top it all off. My buddy and I were joined at the table by two other guests, which resulted in two new friends by the end of the meal. Every step of the stay was easy, gentle, and beautifully put together. We adored Richard and absolutely plan on returning to Winona just to stay here again (and to take Richard up on his countless wonderful sightseeing recommendations)!! What a treasure!

The host Richard was amazing, very welcoming from right when we got there to the end. Excellent breakfast and so much cool history, too! Looking forward to the time to come back, very worth it!

I appreciated the time taken to greet me. Doesn't happen often, and this host should teach a master class on it.

For such a large space, that accommodates many guests, it would have been nice to have easier access to laundry facilities or told beforehand where to handle such.
