The Highwayman Hotel

Room was a good size, bed was comfortable, bathroom was a good size, bath and shower worked well. Room was clean, linen was excellent and towels were large! Breakfast was good as were the meals we had in the restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very dog friendly. We have stayed before and would stay again.

Would have liked a place to hang the shower head when using it.

This hotel just exudes character and charm. You can truly feel its three centuries of history, and the stories that filled its walls. However, while you are never far from history in the Highwayman, this is a hotel with all the modern amenities you need. My room had two large, flatscreen televisions, coffee and tea-making facilities (with high quality tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided), hot and powerful shower, laundry facilities, and powerful Wi-Fi all over the property. The room was clean and fresh. Windows can be opened and, considering I stayed in summer, this provided a refreshing breeze throughout the day. Beds were extremely comfortable and I had enough pillows to sleep at a right angle, if I wished. The room was tastefully decorated and managed to retain the charm and heritage of the structure. Outside, one is met by the magnificent garden and outdoor dining area. Tidy grass but the hotel is surrounded by handsome trees and hedges, keeping you close to nature. The Oxford canal runs by and this is an excellent opportunity for an evening walk, or to sip a coffee while watching the pretty boats go past. What can I say about the staff? Nothing was too much for them. They were so obliging and ensured any need was met. They were also the friendliest and most welcoming people you are likely to meet. They knew I was in Oxford for a college interview, and so they were extreme encouraging, ensured my suit was was ironed, and made sure to wish me the best of luck on the morning of the interview. I selected the Highwayman not just because it was very fairly priced, but because I knew its location (far enough from the hustle and bustle while a short bus ride to Oxford) was just what I needed. It gave me a quiet location to take my mind off the stress of the interview, but a regular and quick bus into Oxford passing the hotel, so I could easily get to the college on the morning of the interview.

Next to a canal and old property with some charm

Uncomfortable bed, rooms actually directly facing a road and expensive breakfast including mouldy bread (which was exchanged but only when I pointed it out)

The Pub was very sociable. The atmosphere was great , the people were very friendly and welcoming. It made us feel at ease and the staff were lovely and helpful.

The location was not obvious/ not well marked from the road so it took us a few turns to find the place. Signage on the main road would be helpful.

I liked everything about Hotel. Most importantly staff was very friendly and welcoming. Thank you
