Alexander Guesthouse

This hotel is the absolute best location for Zurich. Very close to a lot of restaurants, cafes & bars as well as good shopping stores. Being away from the glamour of Bahnhofstrasse it is a lot cheaper & the quality is still good. Being one street back from river in old town it is close to most attractions which are within easy walking distances.

We arrived late on a Saturday evening. The surrounding area was very busy as there are many bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Hence, it is in a very convenient location for both entertainment and tourist sights. This however means that it is rather noisy when you want to sleep. There is no air conditioning so you have to have the window open for air. Also, there are only net curtains so all the surrounding buildings have a clear view into the room. The room was very bare and rather bleak. We had a non-smoking room which smelt as if a chain-smoker had lived there for at least a decade but otherwise, it was clean and sufficient as a rest stop and we were only there to sleep.

This is not really a hotel, it's look like an apartment owned by "Hotel Alexander" which is one block away, you have to check-in and out at Hotel Alexander, this place has no front desk. If you need help at night time, tough luck! Hookers lined up by the front door at night time.The room has a chair, a bed, a desk, a phone, no air cond, not even hair dryer. we can not open the window, because it's too noisy! I would like to suggest Hotel.com to take off this place from the listing.

Please DO NOT choose this place.. as its just above a red light prostitution area!! Its a nightmare when you need a peaceful sleep.. after a long day of traveling. Staff, is not helpful what so ever!

Excellent and personable service, superbly clean, quiet, and strategically located to access transportation and sites.

The hotel has just been refurnished. Everything was new and in very good condition. The hotel also provided free wifi with very advanced system in generating username and password. The hotel staff were also very friendly with very good English.

I understand that Zurich is expensive, but to charge what they did for the "guest house" experience was dreadful. We entered the lobby of the hotel which looked great, but then we were escorted down a side street to the Guest House. The hallway smelled, the elevator was too tiny so all our luggage couldn't fit in one trip (only 2 of us), and the room was facing a street where hookers hang out looking for business. When 2 hookers get in a fight, well let me just say ii was a noisey experience even with the windows closed. Don't book here if they tell you you're staying "The Guest House". I won't even mention the alligator bathroom because you won't believe me.

The guesthouse is another building with one street from the hotel. Clean but surrounding areas are lots of night clubs and stripe bars.

The service is very nice but the price is not correlated to the room quality. It is more like a sterile room of a prison than a hotel room (guest house). And it smells awfully because the Raclette house is in the same building and if you open the window the smell of cheese is very very intense!

The location was great for us and with a price way lower than most other hotels we checked I must confess that we didn't expect very much. However the room was nice, clean, and had everything we needed. They even gave us breakfast though it wasn't included in the original price, probably because the large hotel they have were undergoing renovations and even though that didn't bother us at all I think they felt the need to compensate a bit.
