Alexander Guesthouse

The hotel is great for a short trip to Zurich. The room is small, but very modern and clean. The staff is very polite and helpful. Great hotel for singles and couples. The surrounding area of "Old Town" is very authentic and unique. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Zurich is an expensive city, but Alexander Guesthouse has relatively economical non-air conditioned single rooms with en suite bathrooms in a great Old Town location. In this price range, some Zurich Old Town hotels and guesthouses have no air conditioning and shared bathrooms. No air conditioning is not a major problem, as summer days are not excessively hot and humid, but having a private bath was definitely a “must have” for me. Room rate does not include breakfast, but that is not a problem as Niederdorfstrasse is Old Town’s premier walking street and contains a plethora of cafes, bakeries, restaurants, and convenience stores within steps of Alexander Guesthouse. Alexander Hotel is the air-conditioned and recently renovated big brother of the Alexander Guesthouse, and both have been owned for three generations by the Pfister family. A single room in the boutique Hotel runs about 20% more, which is somewhat negotiable depending on hotel occupancy. The modern rooms in both guesthouse and hotel are large by European standards and meticulously clean, with added touches like complimentary WIFI, water, fruit, and pillow chocolates. For gadget freaks, there were plenty of receptacles, and included something I’ve never seen before--an electrical strip installed alongside the desk contained female plugs for Swiss, European, Chinese, and UK 220V appliances without the need for an adaptor plug. The Guesthouse and Hotel share a staff which is friendly and helpful.

We were being given a free upgrade from the guesthouse to hotel.. It was very nice of them. The rooms were cosy and nice.

My rating may be skewed to the positive: we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the main hotel instead of the cheaper guest rooms. However, both are in an amazing location - right in the heart of Zurich. Very clean room, great view of one of the main pedestrian streets. Quiet and friendly staff.

The Alexander is a short walk from the train station and convenient to all the fun of the Old Town in Zurich. We were given an upgrade from the Guesthouse to the Main Hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. We were right among the cobblestone alleys of the Old Town and only 5 minutes walk from the shopping along Bahnhofstrasse. We'll stay at the Alexander again on our next trip.

We stayed in secondary hotel...room was clean but there was minimal covering over the windows. The young woman at the front desk was great! Very pleasant and personable. Helpful with all our requests!

It is a rather long walk from the train station and you need good directions to get to the Hotel. If you take a taxi, it will cost 10-12 Swiss francs. The Guesthouse is behind the main hotel and accessible through a walkway. It is near restaurant and shops on Neiderdorf Strasse, away from the expensive luxury stores on Bahnhofstrasse.

Girl at desk on the night of 9/17 was extremely helpful in getting our advanced airline check in and boarding passes.

The front desk lady is very helpful in giving information regarding places to visit! Great, convenient location. The room is clean and the space is adequate! Overall, very satisfied with our stay there.
