Alexander Guesthouse

We appreciated the fact that it was quite and had a view of the interior garden instead of the street. The room, although small, was comfortable. The Guesthouse does not have air conditionning but we had a fan and it was not too hot at this time of year. The personnel is nice and helpfull. We had a problem with the phone and they changed it right away. The hotel is close to all restaurants, at 10 minutes from the train station in the old section of the city.

Great location, internet worked for email, staff friendly. I saw no AC but the temp was fine with windows open.

The Alexander Guesthouse is the downscale "depandance" of the much nicer Alexander Hotel, something which is not explained very clearly on the hotel's website. The two places share a reception, at the Hotel, and little else. The rooms have nothing in common with those depicted on the website and can be described as bare bone at best: two twin beds (comfortable), two nightstands that make ikea furniture look positively luxurious by comparison and a small desk -- my room didn't even have a closet, just a rack to hang clothes on. Fortunately chances are you won't be spending too much time in the room. The hotel could't be more centrally located (although it is in what seems to be the "red light" district) and the staff are friendly and helpful (but keep in mind that there is no reception on site).

If you are looking for a large hotel with lotts of bells and whistles this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a comfortable, clean place to lay your head or do some work that is located right in the center of Zurich you should definitely consider staying at the Alexander Guesthouse. The Guesthouse is located 1 block behind the hotel. There is no front desk or security at the Guesthouse, but the front door and the room door required a key card (you need to check in and pick up a key at the Alexander Hotel, located 1 block away). The room was small, but absolutely perfect for me (female traveling alone), and had all the basics: bed, desk, hanging racks, bathroom with shower. It was clean. I will note that the Guesthouse is in the viscinity of a strip club, but there are a number of these clubs throughout Old Town, so it is not surprising (but something to keep in mind for those who rather not be close to one). The staff at the Alexander Hotel was great, very nice and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable, clean, affordable. 10-15 minute walk from station. Somewhat unusual configuration: reception area at main address, rooms on the next street. Not really a problem since at a budget hotel there's no need to be at reception other than check-in/out. Room simply appointed, but clean. Only complaint: no air circulation, so stifling at night, even in early spring (30 March).

You really can't beat the location. Within walking distance of everything and situated on a really nice street. Clean room. Nothing fancy but a clean bed and room. If you want a nice location to explore the city in and have a bed to sleep in, I recommend it

Will return upon my next visit to Zurich. Perfect location to train and in middle of old town.
