Alexander Guesthouse

It was the hottest day of the year, so I had to pay extra to stay in the main hotel with air conditioning.

I am a single traveler & this was my 2nd stay in Zurich.I was getting in from Zermatt at 10pm so I decided I didnt need to have a "good" place, just somewhere to lay my head. I was wrong. I needed a safe place. The GH is VERY difficult to find. I asked the taxi driver to take me once I arrived. He pointed me to a landmark that I could see so I decided to walk. I then asked people (including random locals & random hotel desk peeps). They either never heard of it or said "its close". I walked around the block (all which were on hooker row). I was very nervous walking by myself (and I am not easliy scared).I finally found Alexander Hotel. I walked in a sweaty mess (it was 95*). The VERY NICE and controled man handled my "mood" well. He to checked me in & then told me that I was in fact NOT even at the guesthouse. He pointed me back to the dark alley that I needed to walk up to find the guesthouse. I told him that I was not walking outside by myself again. He was VERY calm and said, "I will walk you".He walked me to the front door. 2 random men sitting on the stoop. He said my room # in front of the hookers & randos. Gasp. My room was fine. It was clean, 2 pretty comfy twin beds. I was on the street side(very noisy) I was still a little unnerved.I turned on the TV & it was all in Spanish. They had over 50 stations,1 in Engligh. Good 'ol CNN. It was uber hot, but they had a fan. I took a sleeping pill and doze off.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Always greet with smile. location is very convenient. access to many restaurants, shops and especially near to bus station and train station.

Nice enough for a cheaper stay in crazy-expensive Zurich. The staff is super friendly. The room was fine, nothing special. Air conditioning in summer would have been a BIG improvement. The only real complaint is that when you arrive at the address, you learn from a sign on the wall that you have to walk around the block to a whole other location where they keep the reception desk. Not very fun when you are carrying luggage! Did I miss a warning about this? Anyway, not a bad hotel. Not great either.

May be good for bachelor not for family. Rooms are noisy. Also streets are full of bars and noisy. close to main train Station.

Room was clean, simple but with all of the necessary stuff. Guest house is located one block away from the major strip of the historical area so it was excellent! Noise could be an issue on the weekends and if you are a light sleeper, but my friend had ear plugs and she was able to sleep well. We had a twin bed room that was spacious, the bathroom was not super tidy BUT it wasn't bad (I have high cleaning standards). The hotel is small but it has a lift (Elevator) so that was great. The check-in has to be done at the main hotel which is located on the major strip. The front desk lady was very nice, she speaks several languages (that was impressive :-D). The are several restaurants and shops on the main street close by. There is also a supermarket very close to the hotel. The street where the guest house is located has lots of people walking at night and it's busy with women working but we didn't feel unsafe. Also, we did not stay out too late so we didn't have a problem. Overall, the guest house is a great choice if you are looking for a clean, simple, not fancy and on the budget place to sleep.

Great location! Staff was very nice and considerate. Porter walked us to the building because you have to check in at the hotel, not the guest house. Clean and comfortable rooms. No complaints!

A double room is actually a room with 2 single wooden beds pushed up beside each other, sheets blankets etc. are singles. Checked with reception they say they are all like that.
