Booked this for my fathers 60th, him and the mother had a fantastic time and couldn't have said a bad words about anything regarding the stay, package, staff or venue

Lovely rooms, luxurious, gorgeous spot, not far off the A1.

Kitchen didn't really get it right. Too fancy, huge meat portions, sweet sauces, potatoes swimming in sweet juice. Clientele seems largely fairly elderly, surely a steak at 10oz is too big to be the only size available? Keeping it simpler would be much better. Food not nearly as good as on previous visit.

Stunning building set in lovely peaceful grounds well away from everything. Yet so accessible to the A1 and everything the North East has to offer.

The bathroom was starting to look and feel a little bit tired in the room but the whole hotel is due to be closed in a matter of weeks for a 7 mo nth refurbishment.

Das sehr gute Restaurant, das man aber auch braucht, denn es liegt schon sehr abgelegen von allem. Die Gartenanlage drumherum!

Ideal location for nearby attractions. Rooms spacious and lovely bathroom. The cooked breakfast very good. Staff very helpful. Ample car parking.

Towels not changed and very sparing with toiletries. Buffet breakfast poor. Evening meal expensive and poor.

Tiny en ensuite spoilt stay. Whilst dog facilties good - absolute rip-off £30 extra! Hotel will be renovated/refurbed and our room de-commissioned but overall cost of £220 outrageous for a room worse than Premier Inn/Travelldge. Food and surroundings though were good. Such a shame and whilst receptionist at check out had read my note about ensuite did nothing. Very very poor value.

This is an excellent country hotel, about 1.5 miles down a lane from the main a1, it’s quiet and peaceful and although in need of refurbishment, which it’s getting after November this year, is still extremely nice. The rooms are old fashioned but comfortable and warm ( when you work out how to turn the heating on (why don’t they tell you?)): staff are wonderful and the food is excellent. Breakfast is really good with continental and cooked meals, evening meals are brilliant, they seem a little expensive until compared with neighbouring restaurants after checking, but the variety and quality is really exceptional. Service is good, efficient but not over friendly, and exactly as it should be. The extensive grounds provide the perfect backdrop to this hotel. I highly recommend it, but hope that the alterations and extensions starting this November, don’t spoil the experience.

Excellent location and very well maintained grounds. Stayed in one of the seperate buildings which was nice and clean. Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good (only had the full english though). All round a good stay with no negatives
