"Nice hotel for a short break."

9.0

We were travelling onward to Scotland, so this was a great location for us. Also it was lovely and quiet at night- except for the owls- again lovely! Breakfast was alright. Fruit salad was a bit limited and looked like the leftovers on our second morning. The cold meat/cheese didn’t look at all appetizing. And the toaster(do your own toast) took forever. The hot breakfast was a bit limited. And on the second morning it was set on a cold plate- a real no-no!My room was in the separate building- The Grange. Nice room, comfy bed and good pillows. The bath had a big rainfall shower but the doors didn’t fit well and were quite grimy. The hospitality tray was ok but no hot chocolate (had to ask). The room could have done with a fridge for fresh milk. Easy to park.

The hotel has been sold and will be closed from November 2025 to May 2026 and so it seems that things are being left rather than fixed.

"The hotel is shortly to be refurbished so stay after that ."

7.0

Location, gardens, welcoming staff, style of property Standard of food was good and cooked to request . The grounds are very well maintained. Great location for visiting Northumberland.

Room overall was shabby and dirty . Room serviced but not cleaned during stay so by day 4 the bathroom was dirty . Had to track down extra toiletries as not automatically replaced . The beer glass from day 2 stayed with us all stay ! As did the dead spider on the curtain. Not black out and lights from other rooms shone in all night . The green exit light annoying . The ancient hairdryer was glowing bright orange/red when on, dangerous.

"Ok. but could have been so much better."

6.0

Location was good for exploring Northumberland and Scottish Borders. Lovely grounds in a picturesque setting.

Property is tired and is about to be re-structured by new owners. We were here two years ago and it’s a completely different atmosphere . Food prepared by the chef was excellent, however the continental breakfast was extremely poorly presented.
