Friendly, knowledgeable host.

Room required some maintenance for instance, taps in the on suite sink moved when turning them on for use, didn't use the wardrobe as the hinges were loose on the door which made it unsafe to use as it was a mirrored door, bathroom was a little shabby, paint peeling on the ceiling, bed was a little springy in areas.

The room was pleasantly decorated, the bed was very comfortable, the hospitality tray was perfect, the bathroom had everything we needed. Our hosts were kind and caring, going out of their way to be helpful.

It's hard to think of anything we didn't like. The only unpleasant thing was the attempt at a scam attached to the booking.com website when we booked our room. That attempted to get us to click on a link and pay a deposit to ensure reservation of our room. I knew that a deposit had not been requested when I booked, so avoided being conned. I think that the responsibility for this lay with booking.com and not Castle Gate.

…a little dated, lovely and quiet at the back, bathroom was tiny, but good flow on the shower, nice bedding but the mattress was really bad, with springs making all sorts of noises when you moved. Towels were also really small. Also creaky floorboards from the landing were so loud…

This is an exceptionally wonderful place to stay. Everything was perfect and ran like clockwork. The hostess was very helpful without being overbearing. Everywhere was clean. In addition, Alnwick is a lovely town with a wonderful castle and secondhand book shop.
