Traditional Cretan Houses

Staying at the traditional Cretan house was perhaps the highlight of the trip to Crete. The property is 20km from the city, but easily accessible if you have a car, however there are cab and bus service. The experience of a small welcoming Cretan village is enveloping. The small cafe,grocery stores and the second floor restaurant recommended by the owner, Popi, was outstanding....totally unexpected in a small town...broad selection of menus choices. Nice option to have if you don't want to drive in the dark on mountain roads. The owner, Popi was helpful friendly and a great host. Similar to another reviewer, I missed the 'notify the host of arrival time' request, and had a moment or two of anxiety which was quickly allayed by the villagers, confirming that indeed I was in the right place. Don't be put off by the drive, its lovely. In the heart of wine country.

The apartment us large and fully equipped with two bathrooms s and a large dining room. It is fully furnished with stylish pieces of furniture from Greece and India. Every detail if the apartment is accurately selected. A suggested choice 25 minutes driving from the city center of Candia.

Wir kamen mit 2 Tagen Verspätung an - wir hatten Probleme mit dem Flug. Der Eincheck bei Ankunft geschah im Schnelldurchlauf, wir stellten erst, nachdem die Besitzerin entschwunden war, folgendes fest: Es gab in der Küche kein warmes Wasser, keinen Herd, keine Teller, nur einen Schnellkochtopf, keine Weingläser. Der Fernseher funktionierte nicht. Im Bad war das Waschbecken verstopft, wir haben es selbst gängig gemacht, die Dusche und das Waschbecken hatte kein Heisswasser, erst nach Anruf bei der Vermieterin, fanden wir die Schalter für das Heisswasser. Am letzten Tag ging auch die Pumpe nicht mehr, es lief gar kein Wasser mehr. Das Appartement hatte keinen Kleiderschrank und der Ofen befand sich in Form eines Miniherdes mit 3 Platten und einer Röhre in einem Abstellraum auf einem Regal, Strom kam aus der Kanelrolle und ich musste mich zum Kochen auf eine Leiter stellen, ausserdem war er, wie die ganze Wohnung, verdreckt. Am vorletzten Tag erschien die Besitzerin mit Tellern, Gläsern etc. Und putzte die Wohnung. Fazit: NIE WIEDER!

No hay limpieza. Cuando llegamos a la casa no habian limpiado lo de kia anteriores huespedes, nos hicimos la cama en el momento de llegar nis dieron tres toallitas para dos personas y no las cambiarin durante ningún dia ni las sabanas ni limpieza. No habia desayuno, el agua de la ducha se filtraba al piso de abajo (salon-cocina) Mal

Positivt: At bo i et sådant hus kan ikke sammenlignes med at bo på hotel. Der var en atmosfære, som gjorde det til en ganske særlig oplevelse at være i huset; stemningsfuldt på alle måder. Dertil var landsbyen dejlig at være i, et autentisk og afslappet sted. Der er en taverne i hver ende af byen, og især den ene har et rigtig dejligt køkken. Fra landsbyen er der fine muligheder for traveture ud i det skønne landskab med olivenlunde og vinmarker. Kritisk: Vi fik dårlig information om husets beliggenhed i landsbyen og måtte vente længe i mørke på, at udlejeren ankom og lukkede os ind. Huset fungerede perfekt for os, men for nogen vil de mange trapper og trin nok være et problem. Huset har få vinduer og er altså temmelig mørkt, og de elektriske belysninger er efter dansk standard slet ikke tilfredsstilende. Badeværelset er for så vidt OK, men meget snævert, og møbleringen i huset gør adgangen til det besværlig. Der er køkken, men det kan ikke bruges til meget, da det kun er beskedent udstyret; det er dog nemt at indtage alle måltider ude i byen. Vi havde problemer med at opvarme huset, fordi et system til at åbne og lukke for varmen ikke var korrekt indstillet. Det blev dog rettet efter tre-fire dage, og derefter var huset meget behageligt at være i. Også Wi-Fi systemet gav problemer, og da vi havde brug for daglig netadgang måtte vi tage en kafé i landsbyen til hjælp. Der gik igen tre-fire dage, inden systemet virkede, hvilket var både tidskrævende og frustrerende.

We absolutely loved this "hotel"-- more a small-scale restoration project in a small Cretan village. I saw some of the reviews that complained about having to wait to get in, etc.-- I think perhaps they don't have the right frame of mind. The confirmation does request to notify the host of an arrival time-- I failed to notice this, and so we had a few drinks at a local cafe after we contacted the host. The apartments are beautifully restored, the village is authentic and non-touristy, and the restaurant recommended by the host was one of our best meals. As long as you come in with the right expectations, this is a great find.

Located in a small village, the owner drove it to let us into our room. We had to wait a bit at the nearby cafe...which was lovely! She was gracious and showed us around the apartments. She tidied the rooms a bit during our arrival. We checked into the room and had planned to cook in the kitchen, but found limited selections in the nearby stores. We decided to eat at a nearby restaurant. The owner went with us and we had a great evening! We met several of the local people and she discussed life in Crete with us. We only stayed one night, but would have enjoyed exploring the town more. Great unexpected experience!

No useable internet. Cooking and eating utensils are inadequate, poor quality and were not clean. Basic cleaning and other materials not supplied - eg no bathmat - concrete floor, no chux or similar, no tea towel,.... No shower curtain so bathroom floods when one has a shower - requires proper shower doors to be fitted. Heating turned off without warning the last night. TV is very small, inconveniently placed in the apartment, very old (set top box) and did not work properly. Only Greek channels available. No change of towels (stayed 4 nights) despite asking. We had to make the bed ourselves.

La propriétaire est très gentille. Le logement a du charme. On se trouve dans un petit village hors de la grande ville.

cuisine lits non fait ( draps sois disans en fil d egypte mais en coton extremement reche pas de draps housses et une seule taie d oreiller pour deux soi disans vu sur la montagne malheuresement sur deux batiments pas de papier toilette apres la douche veuillez passer dans la cuisine pour vous essuyer ne prenez pas de reveil les cloches de l eglise vous reveillerons des six heure du matin jusqu a vingt et une heure cuisine non adapte arnaque totale desastreux.c est dommage
