Hôtel Orchidées

The hotel was in a nice, quiet, in an off the main road location - not too far from other restaurants. Parking was excellent. Staff very friendly, helpful and spoke English (I don't speak French). The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom nice and clean, but in general extremely small - could barely get our suitcases between the wall and bed, and only one shelf for two suitcases (double room). Breakfast didn't have a very big selection, and all of the eggs were gone by the time I got there, only a few mintues after a big group. But food that was available was fresh and tasty. Being my first time in France, I'm not sure if this is the norm or the exception, but I would still recommend the hotel with caveats.

Hotel Orchidees is situated on the edge of Verdun by an industrial park but it is nice and quiet at night. If you are visiting Verdun for the 1916-18 battlefields it is ideally placed to get to the Ossiary and Fort Douaumont without having to go through Verdun itself.

Pleasant hotel at base of the hill of Fort Douamont. The road by the hotel leads directly to the memorial and the fort. Good dinner for a price less than the usual. Typical breakfast. Hotel staff were friendly with adequate English.

Hotel was nice, clean and comfortable. The staff and Restaurant were excellent. It has games equipment for the Children & Adults and a nice swimming pool.

Stayed 2 nights with friends. Rooms quite small. Owner seemed more interested in his computer than serving us at the bar when we arrived. Informed on checking in that restaurant would be closed on Saturday night. At breakfast on Saturday, when asked, owner stated Bar would be available from 21.00. After going out for dinner, we arrived back at hotel at 21.10 to find the place locked up and hotel in darkness. After entering through the guest entrance we attempted to go through to the guest lounge but found the door locked. As there was nowhere else to sit and no means of refreshments, we retired to our rooms at 21.15!! We arrived for breakfast at 08.00. The place was still locked with bread and croissants on the doorstep!! At approx. 08.30, another guest knocked up people living in bungalow at side of car park. A lady, who it transpired was the owners mother came across to open up at 08.45. We eventually managed to have breakfast at 09.00. On checking out at 09.40, lady was embarrassed and apologised, there was no mention of any reduction as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience. I would definitely not recommend this hotel and will never stay again.

This was a one night stopover whilst doing some family history research. Verdun has not much choice in terms of hotels and this one is about two miles out of the centre. On the plus side the staff were good and the room was clean. On the downside lounge/ bar amenities were minimal and overall the hotel felt like it was built out of portacabins. It all felt very flimsy. Next time I return I will look further afield.

This was a great hotel! Wanted to stay close to the Verdun Battle field and literally a stones throw from it. The hotel was incredibly clean and comfortable. The dinner was out of this world I had escargot and kangaroo steak and plums with chocolate and Ice cream, a 5 star meal for 25 euros! The staff helped us out so much, thank you for a great stay. And to Albert our dear friend thank you for the tour of the battle field it was once in a lifetime thing I will never forget! The town of Verdun is just gorgeous it is a must see!

Located on the outskirts of Verdun, this was an OK place to set as a base for exploring the area.

We had one night at Hotel Orchidées. The room was very small but clean and well fitted out. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely superb and breakfast was good - fresh and plentiful. The bar and outside seating was basic but pleasant and that sums up the hotel - basic but good. Well priced and well located (don't be put off by the light industrial look of the drive up to the Hotel - it is insignificant). Overall, very pleasant and good value for money.

Room rather small, but a good value for the money.
