"It offers timeless luxury, historic charm, and impeccable Thai hospitality in a serene retreat."

10.0

For Booking.com Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 11 out of 10 – A Standout in Luxury Hospitality From the moment we arrived, 137 Pillars House set a new benchmark for hospitality. Greeted personally by the effervescent Anne Arrowsmith (GM) and given a seamless introduction to the resort by Toto (Head Butler), we immediately felt like esteemed guests in an exclusive sanctuary. The suite was nothing short of magnificent – a flawless blend of historic charm and modern luxury, with meticulous attention to detail in every corner. The ambience? Picture a tranquil retreat where time slows, and every element is designed to indulge the senses. But what truly elevates this property is its people. Each and every staff member embodies the essence of genuine Thai hospitality – as if welcoming you into their own home, with warmth, grace, and an intuitive understanding of your every need. Often, as the day’s warmth lingered in the air, I found myself capturing the day’s reflections in my journal on the verandah of The Borneo House, a 130-year-old colonial gem, its French shutter doors wide open to the night. A perfectly chilled Hemingway Daiquiri in hand—sharp with white rum, fresh lime, and the faintest whisper of Heering—I leaned back, taking in the scent of aged teak and tropical blooms as a soft breeze stirred through the towering India Rubber trees. There’s something about this place—so rich in history, so effortlessly timeless—that makes the world slow down. And for a fleeting moment, as ink met paper, I could sense Hemingway himself in the corner—watching, absorbing, contemplating. As someone who has spent decades in luxury hospitality, I can confidently say that 137 Pillars House is in a league of its own. Ms. Arrowsmith, take a bow! You and your team have created an experience that is flawless, memorable, and truly world-class. A must-stay for discerning travellers who appreciate exquisite service, refined elegance, and the art of hospitality—rooted in effortless anticipation.

"Elegance and warmth in Chiang Mai!"

10.0

Exceptional boutique hotel in a very convenient and quiet part of Chiang Mai. The staff is very warm and helpful, responding quickly to any need. The food at the hotel was exceptional as well. Wonderful breakfast every morning to satisfy any taste. Gorgeous pool on the grounds with such a relaxing vibe. We truly feel it is an oasis amidst the cacophony that is the nearby town, and felt like we were returning home every day! Ann the general manager was kind to visit with us daily and gave us many tips to enhance our stay. The rooms were gorgeous and quiet. Just an overall elegant place to stay that you should not miss! We highly recommend it and will certainly return there for our next visit! Well done 137 Pillars ❤️

"Understated Elegance"

10.0

137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai is the epitome of understated elegance. We have traveled the world and stayed at some of the finest hotels, however 137 Pillars House stands up or exceeds all of them. From the moment you step into the courtyard a sense of calm and awe overtake you. The property is beautiful and is only to be exceeded by the staff at the hotel. They see that every need is met and always with a smile on their faces. The general manager, Anne, is exceptionally wonderful. She welcomes you to the resort as if she is welcoming you into her home. If you are looking for the finest you needn’t go any further than 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai.

"Amazing experience"

10.0

We had an incredible trip to 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai in January of 2025. I was travelling with my family, including a young kid < 4 and a toddler, and 137 pillars was the highlight of the trip. We stayed in the DF Macfie suite, which has a gorgeous outdoor shower, huge bathtub to bathe the kids in, and a lovely fully covered patio space that we were able to set up a daybed in and put the kids to sleep outside of the main room. The staff were very responsive and helpful before we arrived. Ray, our personal butler (!!) reached out and provided several excellent suggestions for places to go and dine. When we forgot out baby carrier on our way to Thailand, we asked him for suggestions on where to buy a new one, and when the hotel shuttle came to pick us up they took us to the mall, helped us find a carrier and translate, as well as stock up on milk and other baby essentials. At the hotel itself, everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, attentive, and always had a smile. The breakfast was delicious and had plenty of interesting options, and that was before we realized there was an entire additional room of cold items we hadn't seen when we first got there. The room and the grounds were beautifully kept up, quiet, peaceful, and luxurious. Highly recommend to anyone who is considering a trip.

"Amazing, luxurious place to stay"

10.0

This is an incredible hotel and simply heavenly. The service from the moment we arrived was impeccable and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us during our 2-day stay with Tuck acting as our personal butler throughout, which was brilliant. We were welcomed by General Manager, Anne, too, who was visible throughout our stay, which is always a good sign. We stayed in the East Borneo suite room (#3) and it was wonderful – spacious, with a super comfortable bed, a lovely indoor and outdoor shower and a large bath. The terrace area was spacious and very comfortable too and enjoyed some morning sun. The hotel is set in beautiful and mature gardens with lots of trees and plants, and numerous water pools and some lovely art, which creates a very zen atmosphere, but worth checking if you want a room with more natural sunlight. The swimming pool is stunning and perfect for relaxing or doing some lengths. The sunbeds don’t get much sun though, which is a shame. There is a decent gym but no sauna/steam room. The spa was excellent, and we enjoyed some of the best massages we have ever had. Fon has worked here for 10 years, loves her job, loves the hotel and it shows, she was awesome. Breakfast was lovely with a great choice of fresh and beautifully prepared foods. We had dinner one night and loved listening to the pianist enjoying our cocktails nearby (we found the main bar too cold) and then eating in the Palette restaurant. This offers a wide (probably too wide) choice of food, which was competent but not special. Wine choice by the glass was good but somewhat limited, with no rose available. We loved this place, thank you.

"A very special property"

10.0

This is a very special property. We stayed here in 2014 for our honeymoon and returned a decade later. Is it such an oasis and is exceptionally maintained. When we visited they had been flooded only a month earlier which we found incredible given how immaculate the property was. The rooms are absolutely stunning, we enjoyed our breakfasts and dinner / drinks. It is quite quiet on the property, which is to expected given the small number of rooms. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have travelled extensively and this is one of the best properties we have stayed at and I very much look forward to returning - without a decade's gap next time!

"A Serene Oasis in Chiang Mia"

10.0

We spent 5 nights at 137 Pillars, and wish we could have stayed more!. A true oasis, close to the old city (a 10 minute walk) and yet quiet and tucked away from the action of the town. The hotel ambiance is gorgeous. Open and serene, with spacious grounds that give each suite a feeling of privacy. The service is exceptional as well. Warm and loving staff that are eager to make your stay a smooth and memorable experience. We truly felt like it was a home away from home. Tuck was a wonderful staff member who made our stay effortless. From restaurant reservations and recommendations, shopping tips, and exchanging our money from other currencies to Baht. During our travels prior to staying at 137, my husband got a cold. The staff checked in on him, even had hot tea and honey sent to our room. Offered to take us to a pharmacy. They were genuinely concerned with his well being and healing. Daily someone would inquire about his health. Anne, the general manager, was a gracious host, interacting with guests at breakfast time and walking the grounds through out the day. Her attention to detail and warm heart could be felt throughout the philosophy of the establishment. Lastly the food ….the best we had in our 3 week trip across S.E. Asia. Dinner was absolutely divine, providing both a Western and Thai menu. Breakfast was plentiful and beautiful. A true gem and unique hotel experience.
