"Wonderful gem in an old neighborhood!"

10.0

We had such a nice stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful and it was very pleasant to sit on the patio and eat. We could walk down to the center of town but there were also taxis if we preferred! I would stay here again in a heart beat!!

"Tram not running"

8.0

The neighbourhood is a bit rough and the famous tram is not running up the hill to St Teresa which is disappointing. However, the guesthouse was fine and as advertised

"Wonderful Romantic Honeymoon Hideaway"

10.0

What a lovely hotel. Private, intimate, very well decorated, all new, very well looked after. A very warm and welcoming and cozy environment. Wonderful breakfast in the mornings. We arrived late and checked out late and the hotel was extremely acomodating. The neighborhood is picturesque, felt safe, and quiet but with a good night life nearby. The only drawback is the walk down a hill to the metro. It is fine on the way but it is difficult walking back up the hill after a long day out in Rio. We were only there for two days which was great. Not sure if it would be as suitable for a week or two weeks.

"Fun, friendly, interesting place to stay in Rio"

8.0

I highly recommend the Quinta Azul and look forward to returning someday. The staff have big smiles and are very helpful. Breakfast is ample and delicious. The property holds on to the hillside and has some nice views from the common areas. My room was tastefully decorated, pretty large, and had excellent A/C. The bed was new and very comfortable. The WiFi worked from my room, although they say it only reaches the common areas. My only complaint was that the hot water was not very hot--but that's ok in Rio's warm climate. Overall, a really nice stay, and it's fun to stay in artsy, historic Santa Teresa. It's easy to walk down the hill to the Metro Station or even Centro. And it's possible to walk up the hill too, through a nice neighborhood that feels very safe. It takes 15 minutes from Gloria Metro station, only 10 minutes of which are uphill. You'll get a good workout, but at least it doesn't last too long. Go up Rua Benjamin Constant from the Metro, make the first left and then a quick right. When you see a steep staircase to the left, go up it, and you are almost there. At the top of the staircase, go a little further uphill and after the Santa Teresa sign make a right on the street with the train tracks. The hotel is just a few doors down.

"Unique, tranquil, friendly base in Rio"

10.0

A welcoming, chilled-out place where the staff are warm and helpful. Sits on a picturesque street with bars and restaurants and a short walk (if you don't mind steep hills) to the Gloria metro and more lively Lapa. A good place to just sit, read, relax and drink beer from the small bar on the terrace. Staff more than happy to open wine we bought from the local shop or feed the monkeys, for our pleasure, with bits of leftover banana from the good breakfast. Rooms simple but clean, cool and comfortable, with a cheap mini-bar. It's a quiet and peaceful retreat from the chaos of Rio, yet central and within half-an-hour from Ipanema beach. No generic hotel, it's a unique experience.

"Santa Teresa/Rio"

10.0

The hotel is very quaint and nice. The staff (Jackie, Erika and Elizabetha) were phenomenal!! I definitely recommend this hotel if you don't mind being far away from the beach as it is definitely not accessible from the hotel.

"Alternative Rio experience"

8.0

An enjoyable stay at a very personable friendly venue. I had room 2, which was comfortable and clean. Unfortunately just outside the range of the wifi available in the lobby. Enjoyable breakfast, which maybe visited by the local monkeys. Santa Teresaa is a very nice area, but I was given several warnings not to venture out of the well populated areas. So be careful.
