Japanese Inn Yoshimizu

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Japanese Inn Yoshimizu. We enjoyed the experience of sleeping on tatami mats in a traditional Japanese inn in the hills of Kyoto and waking up to a delicious breakfast prepared by the kind staff. The best part was that we were less than ten minute walk from the Gion District and the Gion-Shijo subway. We would highly recommend this Inn and we look back on the experience as one of the key highlights of our stay in Japan!

If you like the traditional Japanese ryokan, this is the place. No TV and phone in rooms but had Y5 for computers. The place was located within the "park" but away from all the busy streets - it was one of the last hotels up in the hills. Very quiet and tranquil. Took taxi to and from the main town up to ryokan due to the location. The staff were very helpful in recommendations and information re: restaurants and places to visit.

Amazing experience, excellent location if you don't mind the hike. Very close to Gion and several other attractions. Very nice staff, OK food, lovely rooms. The only thing you need to know is that the bathrooms are not in your room and you will be sharing with other guests. Also, if you are sensitive to noise, the walls are very thin, you can hear anything next door guests are saying.

I loved my stay here! My girlfriend and I both couldn’t be happier with our stay, it has everything you need at a good price and the staff are the some of the nicest people in Japan and if you have been to Japan that is saying ALOT. I will be definitely staying here again when I go back to Kyoto. Make sure you try the traditional baths; nothing beats it after long day of temple hopping. It is a little tricky to find so I would catch a taxi to the hotel especially if you have a lot of luggage.

Excellent service in family-friendly inn tucked away in bamboo grove. Shinto shrines and Gion within easy walling distance, 4 bus stops from main train station. Good place to escape hustle and bustle of city life.

My husband and I would come back here in a heartbeat. Inn is in Maruyama Park -- just a beautiful location. It is definitely off the beaten path -- so not the most convenient location for getting around. But the atmosphere can't be beat. Breakfast each morning was great. Wi-fi in our room worked well. Bathrooms are clean and tidy -- but communal. And be prepared to put your bedding away each morning and set it up each night. If you are looking for a Japanese experience, you will love this place -- we did. For a more traditional western hotel experience, you should probably look elsewhere.

Very peaceful place, accomodating hosts. A nice change from my usual western-style hotels, but with all amenities a westerner might crave, as long as they are happy sleeping on a futon and tatami mat. Very comfy!

Beautiful rustic traditional japanese ryoken (previously a monk's house) - offering pretty Japanese rooms or western style bed room. Cleanliness and service from English speaking staff of highest standard ( faultless). Free internet in cafe area available to guests. Plentiful help and advice re sights and getting around Kyoto. Laundry service available. Families welcome. It is very popular with Japanese and overseas visitors so book well ahead.

This is a traditional Japanese Ryokan - we had a "Japanese Style Room" which means tatami floors and a few futon's (ie mats on the floor). Our room overlooked a raked zen garden. Incredibly restful. Make sure you go to their actual website and get directions... just realize that they aren't exactly clear and when you think you should have gotten there but aren't, go further... you'll get there. It is litterally tucked away in the mountain above Kyoto. A taxi cannot get you all the way there, which in many ways makes it even more restful.

The accommodation is located at the top of Maruyama Park and a short walk through the park leads you stright into Gion. Yoshimizu Ryokan is clean, tidy and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is generous and the facilities are ample, especially the two Japanese baths. We would recommend this Ryokan to couples and families.
