Japanese Inn Yoshimizu

If you visit japan and you want to try traditional style sleeping with futon on tatame this place is great. Nicely located above maruyama park you get a semirural feel whils being in walking distance of all the western kyoto attractions. Close walking distance to the Gion, kyomusu temple, antique shopping streets and pontocho. Staff attentive and friendly, yet in a homespun japanese way rather than the 5star clone corporate way. Restaurant recommendations were good. Continental breakfast of toast soup egg and good cofffee were also welcome

I spent my first two nights in Japan here and am so glad I did. A traditional style of accommodation, with gracious hosts and beautiful, peaceful location. Would love to come back in cherry blossom season...

Very helpful staff. Good english. Right next to major shrines and temples. 10 minute walk to city centre. Quiet forest setting. Onsen in each bathroom. If you don't want your typical city hotel room, and want to experience a traditional Japanese inn, stay here. We were here in January, it was very cold outside, but inside was very warm and inviting.

Apart from the matrresses on the floor being somewhat "thin" (softie westerner) compared to other ryokans where we also had japanese style bedding this was a very beautiful and convenient location in a very beautiful park in the centre of Kyoto close to a lot of the wonderful sights and experiences. The staff were really helpful and very friendly. GOod value !!

The hosts at Inn Yoshimizu were great! They helped us find places and restaurants. The breakfast at the inn was delicious and the location was so quiet and peaceful. This is a hidden gem!!!

Amazing experience, it's a wonderful break from the bright lights of Tokyo. It definitely takes you back in time and the staff was wonderful in recommending spots to eat as well as setting up reservations. Must stay for anyone who is traveling through Kyoto.

We really enjoyed this experience, it's definitely something different. However, the direction given on the Expedia website was a little off. It took us a while to find it on foot.

Beautiful ryokan in a simply wonderful location. I would recommend thisryokan to anyone wishing to experience old Kyoto.

It takes some navigation skills and luck to be able to locate this ryokan. The surroundings of Murayama Park is very pleasant though and makes the journey less tedious. My room was very clean and adequately warmed. Take note that it's a self-service ryokan and guests are supposed to make the futon themselves. The bathrooms only open from 5 to 1130pm (there are 2 of them, each with spa) and 7 to 9am in the morning. 10pm seemed to be the peak hour for bathing and I waited quite a while before it's my turn. Simple breakfast is served. Though it's written "continental breakfast" on the menu, do expect more fusion, Japanese food in the morning. There seems to be only 1-2 staff in the ryokan. It's a small ryokan though, with only 9 rooms. But for its price, I would still say it's value for money for a ryokan experience. Though tucked in a park, it is just a 15 minute walk away from the shopping district of Gion and Karawamachi. I would want to stay here again if I return to Kyoto

This is a traditional Japanese Inn, so you sleep on tatami mats with futons and share the bath, but the staff was outstanding and the location is remarkable, so I highly recommend it to those willing to sleep on the floor in the way of the ancients.
