This place has everything I ask for in a vacation in Japan. Eventhough I enjoyed rest of my time in Japan, I must say, my favorite moments are inside of this inn, and I really hope to visit Kyoto and this inn in the future. FYI, the room are clean, location is close to Gion, staffs are extremely nice and speak English. It is best to take a taxi there though, as it is on top of a hill.

Traditional Ryokan in a nice Park. Beautiful Oasis. Very helpful and friendly hosts, make you feel like at home. Perfect location - just a short 10min walk through the park and a temple to old Kyoto. We enjoyed the stay!

If you're in Kyoto and want to see the Gion area, then you owe it to yourself to check out this place! Beautiful location (it's secluded in a park surrounded by temples and a short walk to the main Gion areas). The service was wonderful and the hosts even helped me book accommodations at other hotels and ryokans as well as giving me advice on where to go and directions to wherever I needed. Staff speaks English enough to help you out when you need it. I had to return for a second night before I left kyoto!

INCREDIBLE service and a truly authentic Japanese experience. My stay at this ryokan was very relaxing and its location in the heart of Maruyama Park made a great jumping-off point for exploring Kyoto - within easy walking distance of Gion and Pontocho, Kiyumizu Temple, Kyoto National Museum, and a few other landmarks and hot spots.

This is delightful inn is tucked away in a quiet little corner of Maruyama Park and yet it's so close to essential tourist attractions such as Gion, Chion-in and the spectacular Kiyomizudera. If you are looking for genuine Japanese accomodation with futon beds on tatami floors and nice hot baths to soak in then this is definitely for you. A small and very personal group of staff will help you and provide you with delicious breakfast including home-made marmalade! It may be a little hard to find it the first time but I can think of worse places to be lost than the gorgeous Maruyama park :)

A truly wonderful and surprising experience. The staff were so incredibly friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy not only our stay at their ryokan but also to enjoy Kyoto as a whole experience. I must add that the staff were young and vibrant. In past ryokan stays, I've encountered far older inn keepers but the staff here were young and always with a smile. We were travelling with our 8 year old daughter who loved the whole experience of a traditional Japanese ryokan. Breakfast each morning was delightful. The location of the ryokan was gorgeous in very quiet surrounds yet only a 5-10 minute walk into the heart of Gion.

This was a friendly place to rest from sightseeing. Quick to get to, it's definately not as difficult to find as the map may have you believe. In terms of comfort, these rooms were not as comfortable as prior tatami rooms I have stayed in (my back hurt after the second night), but I would stay there again for short stay as the rest of the facilities were very good.

This inn is in a beautiful location, nestled in the mountain side but with easy access to the Gion district as well as to mountain trails for hiking. My friends who live in Kyoto commented that they never imagined that an inn like this could exist in the downtown area of Kyoto. One word of warning, though, the directions on the website are really bad. My advice is to either turn right out of the shrine area, before you enter the park and take an immediate left. The road winds up the mountain. Go until you think you can't go anymore,and there is a steep drive-way that leads to the inn. Or, if you decide to go through the park, go up as far as you can. When you finally climb the stairs out of the park and onto the road, you will pass another inn on the left and arrive at a shrine. Take the stairs to the left of the shrine and then go up the driveway to the right. The inn has shared toilets and baths, including two heavenly Japanese baths. My husband and I stayed in a Japanese style room with a hobbit-size door. The doorway replicates the entrance to a traditional tea ceremony room. Inside, I felt so peaceful. There is a porch door leading to a rock garden. The first night, the futon mattresses felt a little hard and it got cold, even though it was hot in the day. I was also a little jet lagged as well, so I think that contributed to the discomfort. The second night I was better prepared and slept much better. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Fantastic place, great room and service. unbeatable location. probably the best value in Kyoto.
