"A little bit too traditional"

4.0

Yoshimizu Inn is a beautiful little ryokan with a charming breakfast and a kind innkeeper, but this place was too traditional. Our beds had only a thin floor mat so we woke up sore every morning, as if we were camping. The innkeeper didn't have any extra pads available. The location required we either use taxis every time or have a very long and tiring walk uphill, which was impossible with luggage. I love ryokans but this one was just too uncomfortable.

"Fun little inn right in the park"

10.0

I had a great experience staying here. This was my first time in a Japanese-style inn and I enjoyed it a lot. My room was clean, the bath was relaxing, and the staff was very friendly. It is a bit hard to find but that is part of the charm.

"Real and friendly japanese getaway"

8.0

Honestly, this was one of the main reason we liked Kyoto. Those people are nice, cool, everything you want from people running a B&B/Ryokan. Go there. With no hesitation. For the ryokan, and for the temples and gardens surrounding the place. Crazy.

"Tranquil traditional Japanese Inn"

10.0

Very friendly and helpful staff with clean and comfortable rooms. Shared bathrooms but it isn't a major problems because they have a few rooms and it's not shared by many guests. They have gate closing time at 11:00pm but since I don't think night life is the major attraction in Kyoto so it's find for us again. Besides, if there are major night celebration like the night markets at Gion Festival, then they don't have a gate closing time for the special events. For travelers who enjoy being closer to nature and get a touch of traditional Japanese hospitality, this is a perfect choice. The only thing some travelers may not enjoy is it takes a while 20-25mins to walk from the station to the park in which the inn locates, yet it makes sense since it's part of the cost you pay for the tranquil neighborhood.

"Hidden Gem"

10.0

This ryokan style hotel was great. Hidden in the forest. Staff are friendly and the breakfast in the morning is quite tasty. We stayed 2 nights and wish I could've stayed one more. Recommend getting the address and giving it to taxis because it is a bit tricky to get to this place.

"Very nice, cosy hotel in a quiet place."

8.0

Hotel impressed me with solemn, traditional Japanese atmosphere and tranquility. Though located on the outskirts of the city, it's quite close to many important places which are obligatory for any tourist to visit, like Kiyomizu-dera temple, Higashiyama and Gion districts, Maruyama Park, Philosopher's Walk and a few others. The drawbacks are two: poor breakfast and hard way up to the top of the hill, where the hotel is located. But these are very minor issues and I would recommend this place to anyone as long as he/she doesn't mind traditional Japanese room (futon in place of a typical bed, no chairs). Also, the hotel staff is very helpful and willing to speak with you about any matter. A very good place to stay in!!

"Lovely ryokan, brilliant staff"

10.0

Lovely ryokan, with BRILLIANT staff. At the top of a hill in Marayuma park, for those not inclined to walk or bike down to the Yasaka Shrine area at bottom of hill, staff can call a taxi. Lovely quiet area, awoke to wonderful sounds of birds singing in the morning.

"Amazing location for cherry blossom"

10.0

We had a fantastic stay and wished we had been able to stay longer. the hotel was located in the heart of the main cherry blossom viewing park and so close to all the best things to do. Staff were extremely helpful and kind. the Inn was in pristine condition and surrounded by beautiful gardens. I hope I am lucky enough to stay there again someday.
