Trapp Family Lodge

Horrible experience. Rooms were old/outdated and ours was full of bugs. Staff was beyond rude and creepy - actively monitored our children. This hotel is NOT kid friendly despite the name of the hotel. Families should not stay here! Far from anything to do, moldy rooms, incredibly rude/invasive hotel staff. Only windows in the rooms face the walkway so you have zero privacy.

Great hotel for a great price. One of the few hotels I’ve stayed in where the pictures do not do it justice, the view from our mountain suite was amazing. The room was clean, spacious, and secure. The room doesn’t have A/C which threw us off at first but this is typical for the area as the cool mountain wind was more than enough for a comfortable stay with the windows cracked. The area around the hotel is surrounded by forest so it was extremely quiet and relaxing, calm enough even to see some wildlife roaming freely through the property. The overall decor of the room and common areas was extremely beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, specifically the gentleman at the front desk and the gentleman that kept the bar in the evening and served us breakfast in the morning. I can’t recommend this place enough. We wished we had time to stay here longer but we will definitely be back!

The grounds were lovely. The staff was helpful. The food at their on-site restaurant was good. The service was great and the proximity to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve really made this a great place to stay.

Great service, comfortable

We arrived here from La Fortuna to see cloud forests. We drove, and the last 50 km of driving was probably the worst public road I have seen in my life, and I have seen some. It's a gravel road, consisting mainly of potholes. The hotel itself was OK, though reachable only by a dusty gravel road, so there is no leaving anywhere without getting a layer of dust on your car. The cloud forests are nice, although I would try to condense the whole Monteverde experience to just one day (we stayed two).

Very difficult for old people to walk to rooms, with luggage

Very nice place to stay. I chose this place because I thought it was near the cloud reserve for ziplining. It is the closest hotel to Monteverde Cloud Reserve but not the ziplining. It was a 25 min drive for us. Having said that we enjoyed our stay. It is old but the restaurant food is fine and breakfast good. The grounds are well kept. Thanks to Estefan for helping us book our ziplining and hanging bridges.

It is a longer walk to the town, but you have convenience of free breakfast and dinner dining on the property. I loved that it was the closet to the Cloud Forest - we walked to the ticket window! Wonderful garden views from our room. Very peaceful. Staff was very helpful in booking tours for us.

We were very disappointed in our accommodations because our room was very cold. The lodge is an older building and the windows leak so cold air blew in our room all night. We talked to management and they offered us a heater. For the price we paid we should be comfortable in our room. We were staying for two nights but after freezing the first night we wanted a refund for the second and we were told no.The owner/manager we spoke with did not care about our concerns! The breakfast is super cheap. The servings are very small and limited. They need to treat customers fairly.
