"Good-value budget bunkhouse with minor annoyances"

8.0

That this is basic budget accommodation was reflected in the description and the price, and on the whole it was good value. The room was actually more comfortable than I expected and had obviously been refurbished recently, and the shared kitchen facility means it'd be handy for a longer stay. However, two points on which they really must do better - almost none of the corridor lighting was working on the top floor, which is a safety issue. And I had to go out and buy an extension lead just to be able to plug in the table lamp in my room (room 21) - which then didn't work anyway. As the power sockets are all at the far end of the room, it really isn't too much to ask for an extension lead to be supplied. There is also a TV (which is more than I expected) but it's placed on a table from which the aerial lead is too short to reach the socket. Just a couple of things that would only cost a couple of pounds to fix, but really aren't good enough as they are!

"easy access to trains"

6.0

I enjoyed my stay at the Old Post Office where I stayed for 2 nights. 24 hour access to rooms via a back entrance. Transport is good with easy access to trains and buses. Rooms were adequate for what I paid although there is no tea/coffee facilities in the room. One problem was that there is no wardrobe space and only a set of drawers to store your clothes and no coat hangers or coathooks at all.

"Not so idyllic"

4.0

Bed was dirty..hairs etc on the sheet so obvious it hadn't been changed. Matress was really old/well worn! General cleanliness was not good. In a great location as it's close to town but not a place I will be chosen to stay again.

"Clean but small"

6.0

You cannot imagine how small the room is. Even i have read the comments from previous guests, it still gave me a shock. I was disturbed by the sound made by the guests who stayed in the room next to mine. The bathroom is not private. It is shared with other guests.

"Great Value - Functional, Accessible & Clean"

6.0

Here for one night and the room (at street level) exceeded my expectations in terms of cost, size, provision of a mini kitchen and, most importantly, access to town centre (less than 300 metres away). The room met my needs in respect of comfort (can't whinge about springs in mattress when paying such a fair price), cleanliness, service (despite bar closing at 2200hrs - as well I arrived before then because I'd failed to recognize that check-in time is no later than 2100hrs!), quality of en-suite facility, and range of ales on sale, and parking facilities (informal arrangement between hotel and neighbouring buildings). I was concerned about en-suite lighting (get up too quickly and without care from the WC and there's a risk of banging head against unguarded incandescent light bulb) and the lack of suitable and safe lighting in the shower). But, on reflection, in the price v comfort and luxury conundrum, as a Yorkshireman the price sells it to me. The Old Post Office Hotel will definitely be the first place I'll look up when I need accommodation in Halifax town centre again. Conclusion? Really good value for money. Excellent location for town with benefit of a good range of ales. A place that would probably satisfy most normal folk on a budget, but which could disappoint those with unrealistic expectation of quality and privacy (see other reviewers comments). A good spot for those needing accommodation for work purposes. Thank you.

It was okay but the rooms at the top of the hotel in the eaves with very tight spaced I am 6 foot three and at the end of the bed it just drop down into a shallow corner the bed was comfortable and the room was clean and the bar staff were friendly and efficient I would recommend it but Book a double room not a single and definitely not the top floor
