"Relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, with a few areas for improvement"

8.0

We recently stayed at Hotel Riu Touareg for 11 nights and overall had a really enjoyable and relaxing holiday. The setting is absolutely beautiful, with a stunning beach and a calm atmosphere throughout the resort. The pool areas were spacious and well maintained, and we had no trouble getting sunbeds at any time of day, which was a big plus. The resort is quite large, so be prepared for a bit of walking depending on your room location – for example, it took us around 12 minutes to walk from the infinity pool to our room in Block 2. It’s also worth noting that the beach itself has no facilities, so if you want a drink or need the restroom, it’s a bit of a trek back to the main area. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were consistently friendly and hardworking. The all-inclusive offering had plenty of choice, although the food could feel a bit repetitive after a few days, especially on a longer stay like ours. One small disappointment was the lack of certain cocktails (no espresso martinis!), although there were still plenty of other options available. The evening entertainment wasn’t really for us and could be a bit on the cringe-worthy side, but it’s good that the hotel provides something each night. A highlight was the weekly Riu Party at another hotel, with a free shuttle bus included. The themed nights (neon and white) were a fun change and definitely worth attending. There are also cats roaming around the hotel, which was lovely if you’re a cat person. They were very friendly but not intrusive – although we’d recommend not letting them into your room unless you want a very clingy guest! The hotel itself is starting to look a little tired in places and could benefit from some TLC, but we understand improvements are planned from May, which should enhance the overall experience. It would also benefit from more toilet facilities around the pool areas and additional seating/benches along the walkways, particularly for those who may find the distances more challenging. It’s also worth noting that the hotel is quite remote, making it perfect for a quiet, all-inclusive break, but less ideal if you’re looking to explore the island. Overall, we would recommend this hotel for a chilled getaway in a beautiful location, and it has the potential to be even better once the updates are completed.

"Lovely hotel"

10.0

We had a really lovely, chilled week here. Yes, it’s in the middle of nowhere, but that actually suited us because we just wanted to relax. The place is well kept and the staff were all friendly and professional. Our standard room was totally fine — comfy bed, air‑con, tea and coffee, safe, TV, hairdryer, and a little patio with a partial sea view. Block 7 was a great spot for getting to the restaurants and pools. Food was good with plenty of choice. Sometimes it wasn’t piping hot, but there’s a microwave if you want it hotter. We tried all the speciality restaurants and the Asian one was our favourite. The pools were lovely, and we spent most days at the infinity pool near the bar. The only thing we missed was being able to grab snacks at your sun lounger — even a small snack bar or BBQ would’ve been perfect instead of having to go back to the main restaurant. The beach is huge, with a few little souvenir huts if you fancy a wander. Overall, we travel a lot and were genuinely impressed with the hotel. We couldn’t really fault it and would happily come back.

"Absolute paradise. Highly recommended"

10.0

Absolute paradise. Can't wait to go back. LOCATION: remote, no bars shops, restaurants within walking distance outside of hotel. HOTEL: Amazing!! Huge hotel. Flat so easy to walk round. Many pools, restaurants, bars. Spotlessly clean all over. Well kept grounds. Absolutely unreal massive beach. Unfortunately sea not safe to go in but we did paddle right on the edge. Lovely people in the beach huts. Grateful of your custom and any small gifts of paracetamol, toiletries, sweets as everuthing so expensive for them to buy. There is a shop on site but limited goods and you'll pay triple the price for them. Hotel is looking tired and is being refurbed 2026. Hope it doesn't lose it's African vibe!! ROOM: we were in adults only block 4 (AO won't exists after the refurb). Plenty of room. Limited plug sockets though. Large wardrobe area but little drawer space. FOOD: always plenty to chose from. Some a bit repetitive but we ate different meals each day for the week we were there. STAFF/SERVICE: second to none!! Staff work so hard and always with a smile. Nothing too much trouble. Absolutely outstanding on all counts. We had no problems at al on any level . Based on our experience of our holiday at Riu Touareg would not hesitate to recommend 100%.

"Disappointed, won't be returning"

2.0

After 10 years of visiting here , some times twice a year this will be our last time . They are removing the adults only area as of May 2026. Rui are going down the route of making hotel even bigger and seem to think more children is the way to go. Our issue with this is 1. There is already a massive pool for families. 2. Rui Palace and Karamboa already have water slides and far more suitable beaches for children. 3. The toureq beach is not suitable for swimming for adults let alone children .There have been several deaths and severe injuries due to the surf. 4.The adults area is always full and many customers come 2, 3 times a year and for a month at a time so repeat business. None of us regulars understand this decision. Now on to this last visit The food has become almost inedible at times especially the kulinarium. We eat here one evening, please see the pictures attached for the starter the picture that it was meant to be was absolutely nothing like what we were dished up. The steak was inedible several other tables also left it uneaten. I hate wasting food but I really could not eat it!!! I also have a slight milk intolerance, once the innitial oat milk carton ran out it took 4 days before replenished and I had to request on the App. To be fair it arrived within the hour. Few days later it ran out again . Again after several days of asking staff I requested again on the App. This time no joy never arrived .They don't seem to really understand the severity intolerances can affect people and the importance of keeping things separate and readilly available for us individuals. Nuts are regularly open on counters and could be cross contaminated . Breakfast kids had scooters , rubber rings , screeching whilst we were trying to have a tranquil Breakfast. Also there use to be non smoking tables in outside restaurants etc but these have now disappeared and its a smokers paradise. Even in the adults only area where you lay on sun loungers, people now lay beside vaping and smoking which is not acceptable. Parents and children are wondering into adults only . Basically anything goes now. Staff as always helpful and friendly however staff are much less available and therefore don't have the time to clear tables in time. Chefs are having to wash up as well as prepare the food. The menu is repetitive and the food did not change in 14 nights . Dress code has slipped , people going in restaurants in bare feet and beach wear . I had to constantly keep an eye on the var staff to ensure they did not put alcohol in my drink. Even though I ensured I stated this every time we ordered. They still on several occasions either put it in or I just caught them in time . Sadly as mentioned will be the last time we visit. Its become a very low standard hotel . One last thing , checking in at boa vista airport yesterday, the chap hardly spoke English and he didn't know what he was doing, he didn't tag my husbands sports gear ! We had to keep repeating this , he put the gear un tagged on the oversize belt, came back to desk , printed tag off, walked back and tagged it finally however he did not lift the shutter and inform them and yes guess what NO SPORTS GEAR when we arrive at Gatwick. So now having to get Tui to trace it !!! Also Tui site says you have to report at Gatwick on arrival to get a PIR number at 12 at night that is impossible!! Don't recommend this hotel it's finished

"This hotel is far from 5 star"

6.0

You really would expect a hot shower and a good nights sleep in any 5 star hotel but we got neither of those. The hotel has 2500 guests so the hot water is all gone by 6pm which means its cold shower every night. And the quality of the bed is so poor that any movement from your partner wakes you up, hence every night was just a bad nights sleep for both of us. Good points were the cost does not reflect a 5 star hotel. This is not 5 star hotel but for sub £700 pp its incredible value with plenty of food and drink available what ever time of day you want it. The main pool is desperate for a referb with mold spots on the tiles the size of footballs ( but the planned referb is happening in 2 months ) and whilst this main pool is not very nice at all ... the infinity pool is amazing, clean, with a bar and toilet next two it, a towel station and easy access to the beach so we just used that area, and loved every minute. The gardens are well kept and maintained every day ... they really looked lovely as did the beach which has small number of guests using it which suits me, the water is crystal clear and the beach is golden sand and due to strong undercurrent is always a red flag day, but dont let that put you off just use common sence when your in the sea ... as you would at every beach and honestly the sea and beach is such an amazing treat. The location is miles away from anything which is really bad if you like to walk to the shops but amazing if you want a peacefull relax away from it all. Would I stay again ... no ... whilst you absolutely cannot get anything near the quality of this holiday for the £700pp we paid, I would pay a bit more and go to the Karamboa in the hope I could have a hot shower and a better nights sleep.

"Reasonable Stay at Touareg"

8.0

First time visit and wary of one or two previous negative reviews, but was the lowest price AI accomm on the island. You get what you pay for. Yes, the rooms are dated but are still comfortable and clean. Service and cleanliness couldn’t be faulted. Food and drink were pleasant enough, maybe a little repetitive, but the Asian and Italian options broke things up a bit. We wanted a chill out break with no hassle and lazy days in the sun and that was just what we got. Will be back and looking forward to the refurb (May to October 2026).

"Desperately needing there refurbishment"

6.0

Great hotel. Staff work so hard and always friendly, apart from felix on the main desk who wasn’t interested in sorting out the problems we were having. Although we spoke to someone in management who rectified the issues very quickly. Unfortunately we had no fridge for 5 days. Tv didn’t work they did change it when we asked them too. Shower was cold for the first 3-4 days. Plug sockets not working Rooms dated. The rooms were cleaned everyday to a really high standard. Entertainment team worked really hard.

"Our stay"

8.0

1st time to Cape Verde & was very happy with our choice of destination and Hotel. My wife and I had a great time at the Hotel Riu Touareg , staff very friendly and welcoming/ happy to help 10/10 Even down to local beach sellers so so friendly definitely recommend having a look at their great stuff We would highly recommend this experience we had on the island/ hotel & will definitely come back …. But the downside lots of communication on a Facebook page Regarding the Hotel showing concerns about thefts in the rooms / items from the safe being taken so would check this out or be extra careful about your property ( really hope they get on top of this as a Fantastic place)

"Relaxing"

10.0

I was pleasantly surprised at how clean thus hotel was. The bars were great as was rhe entertainment. The food was great in the buffet and the bookable restaurants. All staff were friendly and super helpful. Plentiful sun beds ariund pool or on beach. Room was a little tired but authentic African and clean. Bed was comfy. Maybe the adults only would be more 5* for rooms. Butqe were happy. You will never be hungry or thirsty. No where to go out to, so if you are looking for rekaxation then this us for you. Day trips can be arranged.
