Lot of bad reviews about this hotel. If you go there for a holiday you will really be surprised. Everything was just right and the staff were the best I have ever experienced.

"Winter break"

8.0

We decided on Cape Verde for the winter sun and chose Riu Touareg for the price really. Overall we were pleased we did. The place is huge. Our room was in block 2. Fantastic sea view but a long trek to the pools and dining area/entertainment areas. Great selection of food and we chose to eat in two of the optional restaurants. (I was ill for 24 hours with S&D but would put it down to something I ate which didn't agree with me rather than any problem with what the hotel provided - although I did speak with a lady who had been very ill and on a drip!) We found the food to be very good and plenty of selection. There's plenty of daytime entertainment but we did find the evening entertainment very poor but we always play cards on our holidays so it didn't bother us. The beach is beautiful but red flag everyday although to see the waves is fantastic. The donkeys come to visit each day near the beach bar - great for the kids and adults too! The pools are very cold but once in it's fine. Overall I would come back as I really enjoyed it but it's just rather large for my liking.

"Sadly, we will not be returning to this hotel again"

4.0

My mother and I are currently staying at Hotel Riu Touareg, and unfortunately this will be our first and last visit to this resort. This is my third time in Cape Verde, but my first experience at this hotel — and it has been very disappointing. Upon arrival, we were given a room located at the very far edge of the resort. The room was dark, damp, and had an awful smell. My mother is 75 years old, and no one at reception seemed to consider how difficult it would be for her to walk long distances around such a large resort. After a long and frustrating discussion with the reception team, we were finally moved to a sea-view room, with a promise that we could change again if we were not satisfied. In the end, we decided to stay in the second room to avoid further stress. During our stay, I celebrated my birthday. My mother informed reception twice in advance, yet there was not even a simple birthday card from the hotel. We went to the restaurant for a birthday dinner and, despite requesting a nicer table, we were seated by the door. Later, when I went to reception to pay for the champagne we had ordered at dinner, I raised the issue of the lack of acknowledgment. The reception staff responded rudely, saying that earlier they had tried to access our room to leave a bottle of champagne but could not find the key, and that they had “just” left it — at 9 pm. The whole situation felt poorly handled and dismissive. Overall, the hotel feels very old and I would not rate it higher than 3 stars. The food is average at best. Salmon was served only once during our stay, there was no red caviar (which is often available in other resorts of similar category), and even simple things like green tea tasted unpleasant. Housekeeping appears to clean only visible areas. Our bed linen was not changed for six days. On one occasion, we returned earlier than expected and waited quietly on the balcony while the cleaner finished. She wiped surfaces quickly in about 10 minutes, did not clean the balcony, did not acknowledge us, and left without a word. The only true positives are the ocean, the beach, and the beautiful warm temperature — but these are natural advantages of Boa Vista and have nothing to do with the quality of the resort itself. Sadly, we will not be returning to this hotel again.

"Slightly Jaded Desert Island Paradise – But Still a Great Holiday"

10.0

This was our second visit to Boa Vista, having previously stayed at Riu Karamboa back in 2010 when they were just clearing the dunes to build Touareg. It felt a little nostalgic returning. It’s fair to say Boa Vista has seen limited investment in recent years and, like many resorts, was clearly impacted by the pandemic. However, it does feel firmly back on track. The RIU Touaregl is scheduled to close in May 2026 for a major six-month refurbishment, which after 15 years is understandable and probably well-timed. Yes, parts of the resort are looking slightly dated, but this didn’t spoil our holiday in any way — and the very reasonable price we paid reflected that. During our 14-night stay we experienced one short power cut (around 10 minutes) and lost hot water for one day. In the grand scheme of things, these were minor inconveniences. Our initial room allocation wasn’t what we had requested, despite emailing in advance, but to be fair the issue was resolved quickly. We were upgraded to a fully wheelchair-accessible Junior Suite in the Adults Only section. We’ve been RIU Class members for nearly 20 years, which may have helped — but credit where it’s due, reception handled it well. Please take some of the overly negative reviews with a pinch of salt. We found the food varied and enjoyable, the rooms clean and well maintained, the drinks plentiful (with recognised brands available if you ask), and the weather absolutely superb. For the price we paid, it represented excellent value. Touareg is also the only fully wheelchair-accessible RIU on Boa Vista. There are accessible toilet facilities throughout, and the site itself is flat and easy to navigate — something worth highlighting for anyone with mobility concerns. A word on the beach: it is stunning to look at, but swimming isn’t advisable due to strong currents and heavy surf. The 20-foot breakers rolling in are spectacular — just best admired from the shore. The three main pools are saltwater and unheated. After swimming, a quick shower is advisable as the salt can dry your skin quickly in the sun. Evenings were good fun — particularly the Karaoke Bar between 10pm and midnight. We had some genuinely talented singers during our stay and plenty of laughs. Top Tips * The RIU App can be hit and miss for booking speciality restaurants. If it’s not cooperating, just visit reception — they’ll sort it. * If the local spirits aren’t to your taste, ask for named brands such as Bacardi, Gordon’s Gin or Jim Beam — they’re available. * In the Adults Only section, Prosecco is served from 7pm to midnight. * Wheelchair users should request a sunbed reservation form at reception on arrival to make things easier. * The Adults Only pool bar Saturday afternoon Champagne Party is great fun. * The White Party at Karamboa is definitely worth attending. * And yes — tipping the hardworking staff is appreciated and well deserved. Overall, a slightly tired but still beautiful resort in a truly unique location. With the upcoming refurbishment, I suspect it will be better than ever.

"Brilliant holiday."

10.0

The room- family suite - good size, clean, housekeeping brilliant and very friendly. Worth requesting sea view. Food- large selection. Flies not an issue. Lots of birds so your food needs to be watched at all times!! Loved the Cape Verde restaurant and the Italian was amazing. Entertainment staff are amazing - no pressure to be involved but staff are very welcoming. Beach is beautiful but with a red flag for the sea you can see how dangerous it could be! Staff are so friendly and were brilliant with our children, a special shout out to one of the bar staff Edna, who was absolutely amazing with our son, and Graciano Pixsinero who was also brilliant. Both made an effort regularly to come and chat and it made his holiday. Throughout the whole stay staff were brilliant with kids - didn’t have to queue at the airport or at check in as we had little ones. We enjoyed staying at the main pool as it had a good atmosphere and the kids enjoyed it. We also enjoyed the pool party! We would definitely return.

"Winter sun"

10.0

Lovely hotel, a bit dated but i believe it’s closing for a refurb in may! Rooms were spotless, staff great! Food is typically what you’d expect from All inclusive. Its worth remembering where about you are in the world as 5star in cape verde compared to say Mexico are not the same. Theres not a fat lot to do here so if its an action packed holiday your after, this is not for you. We had glorious weather for the whole week, perfect for a relaxing winter break in the sun!

"Fantastic location."

6.0

The hotel is located in a beautiful spot. Very spacious and spread over a large area. The beach is fantastic – palm trees provide pleasant shade right next to the ocean. Unfortunately, you have to be careful with food and water. During the first few days, I recommend avoiding fresh fruit and vegetables (the cut ones). Unfortunately, we were disappointed – almost everyone had stomach problems. Besides that, the service was fantastic, with a large selection of food – meat, fish, sweets, drinks…
