"Worst experience - definitely would not recommend! More like a 2* hotel"

2.0

Worst experience - definitely would not recommend! Such a shame…the hotel has so much potential and Tobago is incredible. However the sheer incompetence of the senior management team resulted in really terrible service. Everyone on the island said the hotel really deteriorated last year, particular the last 6 months. We even had a meeting with the General Manager and our experience was worse after not better. - Maintenance was poor as staff were not provided with the materials to do their jobs. Our lock was faulty, meaning we couldn’t get into the room and not fixed for 2+ days, the whole complex looks like it needs renovating. Towels would be taken to be washed and then not replaced on multiple days. Beach towels kept running out during Christmas week. - For a so called 4* hotel the all inclusive food was so bad. One chef was good and tried hard to cater for my intolerances but the food was so inconsistent over 10 days, especially for my vegetarian parents, and dairy allergic niece. This included on Christmas Day when despite being promised by the general manager that a special meal would be prepared, all I could eat was a bit of salad from the buffet. Dairy alternative milk and key ingredients were locked away by individual chefs so not always available. Only ever one person making eggs at breakfast so the queue was really long on multiple days. I felt sorry for the staff member. Not all the restaurants were open so the website is incorrect. The ‘pub’ was terrible and depressing. The “fine dining” restaurant was a joke and even though we had booked and advised in advance, they didn’t know about our dietary needs. Cocktails were so variable in quality. We ended up going out of the hotel a lot where the food was always much better. - the entertainment was almost non existent. A bad singer on a couple of days and a lazy team who just stood around on their phones and just did a couple do games on Christmas Day. - Hotel is on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island. You can’t really use the beach as it’s not looked after, sea is rough and there’s no lifeguard. Ironic when it’s called a beach hotel! You are told there is a shuttle to a local beach but it is hardly ever running. - only good elements overall were the pools, the views around the complex and the golf course. A lot of the staff members were also really trying and some were great like Dana at the pool bar, Reggie in maintenance, Terrell & Whitney who worked in the main restaurant & Carla and Ariel in the pub.

"Fantastic All-Inclusive Experience!"

10.0

The Experience Our stay was incredible from start to finish. The all-inclusive package is worth every penny—the food was always plentiful with a huge variety of options, and the drinks were truly nonstop from 10 am to 11 pm. Yes, few items were not available but we spoke to the Chef and had items not even on the menu made to our liking The Room & Service The rooms were very comfortable and well-maintained. A great tip for future travelers: if you need anything extra for your room, just call the front desk. They were incredibly responsive and delivered everything we requested right to our door. AC and Hot water no issues there. The Staff & Concierge The staff truly makes this place special. From Lisa, Mekisha, Karla at the Pub, and many more. The ladies at the concierge desk are experts on the resort packages; they provided all the info we needed and more. Don't hesitate to talk to the staff—everyone we encountered was friendly and eager to help. Pro-Tip Make sure to book the beach shuttle and lunch boxes in advance to secure your spot!

"Unsafe for allergy families. Dairy near miss, poor hygiene, bad food. Avoid this hotel. Seriously."

2.0

Avoid if you or your child has food allergies This has been, without question, the worst hotel experience I have ever had. We stayed at the Magdalena Hotel in Trinidad with our 10-year-old daughter who has a life-threatening dairy allergy. This was clearly communicated to staff repeatedly, including meetings with management and the head of food. Despite this, the hotel consistently failed to manage even the most basic food safety requirements. On one occasion at dinner, a chef assured us that a turkey dish and sauce were dairy free and it was placed in front of my daughter. Only by chance did another server intervene, take the plate away, and later return to apologise, confirming that the food did contain dairy. Had my daughter eaten even a small amount, it would have resulted in a medical emergency. The chef never came to apologise and showed no concern at all. At multiple meals there was nothing safe for her to eat. Chefs openly admitted they did not know what was in the food and told me to find a supervisor. At one dinner, my family ate while my child waited until after we had finished for plain boiled pasta and sauce to be brought out. Even that was completely tasteless. I eventually had to give the kitchen a recipe myself so she could have food that was both safe and edible. That should never be a guest’s responsibility. The constant fear of accidental exposure caused huge distress for both me and my daughter. Every meal was stressful rather than enjoyable. We ended up spending significant money eating outside the hotel because local restaurants felt safer than the resort. Hygiene, cleanliness, and health and safety standards were also concerning, and I have photographic and video evidence of this. Breakfasts were poor, food was badly cooked, nothing was labelled, and allergy awareness was clearly lacking. Beyond food issues, basic operations were poor. We were delayed leaving for an excursion due to a lack of towels despite low occupancy, and advertised facilities such as the tennis courts were not open. There was one supervisor, Veronica, who genuinely tried to help and deserves credit, but she was clearly fighting a broken system. If you have food allergies, especially travelling with a child, do not stay here. This hotel is not equipped, trained, or organised to manage medical dietary needs safely. Our holiday was overshadowed by stress, fear, and disappointment. Staff don’t care enough to be bothered. Entertainment team sit around on there phones and when asked to provide entertainment they put one song on a loop for an hour Witnessed a child cut her foot open on the screws that stand up on the decking! I have so many pictures and videos of this shambles of a hotel

"Great holiday in Tobago"

8.0

We stayed at the Magnalana hotel and Golf Resort for 10 nights. Let's start with the staff who were excellent nothing was to much trouble they went out of their way to help all the staff had a smile that was genuine from the front desk to the room maids The hotel is a little dated but you can see they are working on that. The food was very good & plentiful sometimes not all the food on the menu was available. The swimming pool was good but the standard of the sunbeds was disappointing. We played golf a couple of times on the championship golf course which was very challenging & in great condition. We went on a tour of the island which was good to see what Tobago was like. Overall I would recommend this hotel & golf resort.

"Not a 4 star hotel"

6.0

This place was, shall I say, one of the better options on the island. A few of my friends stayed at the same hotel, while others chose nearby properties. At first glance, the resort seems quite large and peaceful. It wasn’t very busy during our visit, likely because it was off-season. The rooms were fairly standard , definitely more in line with a 2–3 star hotel rather than the 4 stars it’s advertised as. The hotel could use some serious updating. During our stay, we even had an issue with running water, though the staff did move us to another room. It was handled, but still a bit of an inconvenience. On a positive note, the pool area was lovely, especially the infinity pool (small). However, the beach was practically nonexistent, while there technically is a beach, it’s not one you can comfortably swim in or enjoy, certainly not like Pigeon Point or other beaches around Tobago. The food was average, breakfast was fine, and the staff were friendly enough. The on-site restaurants were okay, nothing particularly memorable but decent for convenience. Tobago itself is absolutely beautiful, and I’ll definitely be returning, just not to this hotel. Next time, I think I’d rather spend a little extra and book an Airbnb or apartment instead. For what this hotel charges, it really isn’t worth the money. Yes, it has nice pools, but other hotels on the island, while basic, offer a similar experience for less. Unless the property undergoes a major renovation and refresh, I wouldn’t stay here again. I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, especially when it’s clear the staff are trying, but given that this is one of the largest hotels on the island, you’d expect it to be in better shape and more appealing. Sadly, that just wasn’t the case.

"Excellent access facilities"

10.0

As a disabled person who uses a mobility scooter, I am always very wiery going somewhere new because I am never sure if the facility will accomodate my extra needs. I had no need to worry, when I arrived at The Magdalena Resort I was warmly greated by Stefano who quickly began to help assemble my mobility scooter. He then showed me round and identified the ramps to access different areas, of which there were plenty. There was were no area I was unable to access and the lifts allowed plenty of room for my scooter which is not always the case. I later took myself, alone, around all of the grounds of the gated community which gave me the independance that is so important to me. The food consisted of local dishes with plenty of fresh produce and Nigel the barman served an excellent Rum Punch, making it just to my taste. Nothing was too much for the staff, I would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly to anybody with mobility difficulties.
