Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge

Basic room with good location. It was ok but not as good as what we were expecting for the price. The shared kitchen and living area were good. The benefit is that it is close to activities hosted by the Hermitage Hotel, stargazing/glacier lake etc. The buffet dinner at the Hermitage Hotel was excellent.

Small dated room with thin walls. You could hear people talking until 3am and could also hear people using the toilet on the next level.

The room is cosy as shown in picture. Washroom is clean. Kitchen is fully-equipped with free oil and milk for tea and coffee. Ample fridge space. Dining area and lounge has fantastic view of the mountains.

If want to be really picky....Maybe a few more wine glasses. Some pans are in dire need to be replaced.

Only the location was great

1. Size of the rooms and facilities inside rooms. 2. No option for restaurant

The location is excellent. The communal lounge/kitchen is very nicely laid out and is big. The kitchen area has lots of dishes and utensils, three sinks for doing dishes, stoves for cooking, a large counter where several people can prepare food at once, three big refrigerators, etc. The lounge area has three comfortable sofas, and several tables and chairs. The windows are large, and provide lovely views of the mountains, and there is a balcony where guests can soak up the sun and take in the view.

Our room was very small, yet had a king sized bed, which was actually 2 singles pushed together with king -sized sheets and blankets. A queen or even double would provide more space. There was only room to lay one carry on sized suitcase open. The bathroom was tiny. We had to leave our toiletries on the bathroom floor. The shower had no separate stall. You had to carefully close a cheap curtain around the area or else the whole room would get wet. The bathroom had a faint urine smell which permeated into the bedroom if you didn’t keep the door shut. The kitchen/lounge was very cold in the mornings. A staff member should turn on the heat early in the day. Also, the coffee granules in the kitchen need to be refilled more often.
