Hotel Ryu Resort and Spa

This is a good resort for winter skiers. It has a very good Onsen. In autumn there is little to do. The hotel does not even have a coffee shop. The neighbourhood is deserted with no restaurants close by and only a couple within 5 km. Dinner is Japanese very good with a variety of menus for 3 days running. Would go there again if there was snow.

Stay here for 2 nights with the tour, is a japanese style hotel with an Onsen( japanese style bath).very nice place in the pine forest.hot spring resort. A bit far from the city/ village.service from staff outstanding. Nice food. We all stay in a suite,only the bathroom is a bit small. Sleeping is japanese style on the floorb

A delightful resort and spa to stay and relax after a day of sightseeing. Many type of hot springs to relax in. Try something different and wear your Japanese clothes provided for dinner. A hint for those sleeping on a futon for the first time is to put two futons down rather then one. Futon sleeping is fun because you cannot fall out of bed and it is easy to roll in. The futon is not for the mobility challenged but the hotel has beds also available. A great experience.

Staff was very friendly to check where we were so that we wouldn’t miss our delicious dinner. Hida beef was magnificent & also the rest of the food (served in the format of half buffet). Located in the middle of a mountain in Takayama, so if you prefer the quietness, you should spend somet time here! And we were lucky enough to still see snow falling down

We arrived here after a long day driving. the staff were holding dinner for us and welcomed us very warmly. After dinner (with one of the best sakes we have had) we went to the onsen. That made up for the day! Through our time at Ryu we found the rooms very clean and well appointed and the staff very very friendly. It was hard to leave and we will certainly return soon.

We had a lovely room with traditional beds and furniture. The toilet was rather small but everything else was big. We ate in the hotel and were expected to dress in the provided traditional clothing before being served with local food. We are not convinced about raw fish but gave it a try anyway. The breakfasts were very good and a mix of western and Japanese foodstuffs. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is way up in the mountains so either eat out before returning to the hotel or enjoy the hotels own food. The wi-fi worked well and the onsen was fun. It is essential that shoes are taken off in the rooms as otherwise the matting gets spoiled, Slippers are provided both for the room and the bathroom.

The hotel is located in up hill and forest. Beautiful scene with trees, leaves and flowers. You better have a car to reach there. The breakfast is semi buffet type plus some traditional Japanese dishes. If you didn't have rice or bread, you may find the amount would not be sufficient. However, the food quality is pretty good. We didn't enjoy the dinner there, but was told it is pretty good. Since the hotel is isolated, you have to either have dinner before returning to hotel or go out by car. Our room was upgraded, so it was very big. The spa is great as well. I would recommend to spend more time stay time in the hotel and walk around the forest nearby.
