Hotel Gran Quitumbe

Here's the thing with Quito, the new airport is one hour away from old Quito. I had to spring for a $40 cab ride to get to this hotel. One thing that is great is that this hotel is near the train station. At least from what I can tell. It is a nice and clean place. A four dollar cab ride brought me to Old Quito. They serve a nice breakfast for two dollars two.

Located close to the Quitumbe "Terminal Terestre" (bus terminal), Hotel Gran Quitumbe is a very convenient place to spend a night while waiting for the bus. Rooms are small, but the bed is comfortable, and the bathroom has a good shower. The hotel is extremely clean, and, while the front facing rooms are a bit noisy, the ones facing the back are quiet (I was in room 7) Staff was very friendly, as everywhere in Ecuador it seems. At 20$ a night (plus 2$ for breakfast), it's excellent value.

I stayed here for 2 weeks, friendly staff clean rooms, hot showers, the downs are small rooms, no storage for your belongings, rest only open for breakfast, which is good for $2, can be noisy as on a main road. there is no terrace or garden as stated. there is free wifi in all rooms. nice easy walk to main bus terminal.

This was absolutely the worst hotel experience ever. I have traveled all over the world and can honestly say this was a giant mistake. The staff charged us for things without authorization, thier shuttle service was $ 70 and then would not provide a ride back to the airport. The room stunk of urine and there was evidence of rodents on the property. Dogs howled and barked all night and the traffic noise was incessant. The manager or owner had a bed right behind the check in counter, right there in the lobby! They refused any reasonable request. The bell boy actually told the cab driver to try and over charge us. This was told to us by the cabbie who also told us the place has a terrible reputation locally as well. Stay away from this rip off joint. Do yourself a huge favor.

They ripped me off on my credit card, they deceived and lied and overcharged for a "shuttle hitting me for $ 70. They then refused the return shuttle, charged my credit card $ 80 without permission or adequate explanation. The room stunk like urine, dogs barking all night long, traffic noise continually all night. I am missing things from my luggage. The owner/manager has a bed right behind the front desk. What a dive. The "bell boy" took our luggage, then told the cab driver to overcharge us for the airport taxi ride. This was confirmed by the taxi driver who could not believe that they would act that way. There was evidence of rodents in the room and the place reeked like bad body odor. The "double bed" was actually a single and the single was more like a cot. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE. IT IS NOT SAFE.

We stayed one night as it's close to bus station and we wanted an early start. Staff very friendly but room tiny and so was the bed......however for one night and for the money it was good value. It was very clean. Only one place to eat you could walk to but excellent and cheap food.

Stayed here for an early start from bus station, it is a $1 taxi ride or walk. Very friendly staff but tiny rooms, well ours was, room 17, and agree with another reviewer, the towels were hand towels not bath towels. Bed was also tiny. No breakfast so we walked again to cafe around the corner where we had a good breakfast as was dinner the previous night. Renovations going on so breakfast may restart soon. All in all for $35 it was very good for a one night stay.

Our hotel room was quite nice and clean but really cramped! The bed was also a bit too small for two people and not very comfortable. The tap was only cold water; however, the shower was excellent. The staff were really friendly and nice, but didn't speak any English (except for 1guy). The neighborhood isn't the nicest, but the hotel is very conveniently close to a bus station.

Pros: Close to the Quitumbe bus terminal. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Very very affordable. Free Wifi. Breakfast was very good. (Scrambled eggs, ham sandwich and fresh juice) We needed 2 rooms and for $80 that's what we got. One was a single and the other one was a single. Cons: Really loud if you have a room facing the street. No elevator.(it wasn't too bad, we were on the 3rd floor. I think they only have 4 floors) The towels are super tiny. (half the size of regular bath towels) Overall a great value. Just get a room away from the street and get extra towels.

Great hotel near southern bus terminal Quitumbe. Staff very friendly and helpful. Arrived late night and they were there to assist me. Warm showers were great. Only $1.50 to the new Quitumbe bus terminal 10 minutes away.
