Campbell House

The location of the house was well situated, great spot for food and sightseeing nearby heritage sites. The room was tastefully done and the staff were welcoming and really helpful.

Worn down, there were light fixtures in the bathroom coming out, the shower flooded every time you used it. You could hear a bit of road noise, but the curtains were decent at keeping light out. Overall expected better maintenance of the property for the price per night.

Being on the first floor we found it quite noisy at night due to the guests on the second floor stomping around. I guess this issue was put down to the age of the building and lack of insulation.

Authentic, colonial house with lovely detailing and furnishing. Good location in the Old Town of Georgetown. Comfortable bed and good levels of service.

Noisy. Although not a hotel issue, it has to be said we experienced lots of night time noise when staying at Campbell House. Firstly, owing to a power outage, a diesel generator was situated outside the hotel for two nights. Our sleep was affected. And on the third night, road repairs took place on an adjacent road between midnight and beyond 3.30am - with heavy rollers and pneumatic drills being deployed - yes - this is apparently allowed in Penang. Aside from that we thought the air con was also noisy and not at all adjustable. It badly needs an update.

Breakfast was in the attached Italian restaurant. Staff friendly. Choice of items. Location was great. Room and hotel a labour of love, beautiful furniture and art work. Comfortable and stylish. Rope pulley system to get bags upstairs pretty unique. Staff very friendly and helpful. Colonial room truly lovely. Loved the bright tiles in the bathroom.

Almost perfect. Room had lovely big windows with partial coloured glass and shutters. Looked out onto street although we couldn’t see - presume it was because of noise and to protect furniture so not as much natural light as we would have liked. We had choice at breakfast and presume a fruit platter was instead of fruit juice but would have liked that choice. It is a minor thing as breakfast was a calm experience unlike some of the previous large hotels which were buffet style. Breakfast was cooked to order.

Just had 3 nights in Campbell House, what a fabulous place checked in by Kumar who gave us so much information on George town and some great local eateries. The room was lovely my wife said the owner must have great taste as it's done so well. Treats in the afternoon, a great a la carte breakfast in the Italian restaurant downstairs and previously people commented on outside noise we slept through a massive thunderstorm and didn't hear a thing. Perfect location.Lovely place, very nice people highly recommended. Also we didn't go up to the terrace until the 3rd nights oops lovely place to chill in the evening as it cools down.
